Zelma A. Apodaca age 87, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021. She was born on March 7, 1933, in Raton, New Mexico to her parents Manuel (M.C.) Grant and Eufelia Romero Grant.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gilbert, Clarence, and Ernie, and beloved husband Henry Apodaca. Zelma was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, wife, aunt, mom,
mother-in-law, and nana. She is survived by daughters Nancy Apodaca and Henrietta Wiltgen and husband Tony and grandchildren Ryan and Mariah Wiltgen, brother Wilfred Grant and wife Rocky.
Zelma is also survived by cousins, many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
She married Henry Apodaca on June 20, 1954. Together they spent 61 years of inseparable enjoyment dancing, bowling, and enjoying life prior to his passing in 2015. She was a stay at home
mom and retail clerk for several stores in the downtown area. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a member of the Stitch in Time Sewing Club for many years. She enjoyed gambling, scratch
lottery tickets, and playing cards just like all the other Grants. She also enjoyed playing bingo. She had a great love for kids and babysat ten kids sharing her love with them, just as she did with
her own close-knit family. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Zelma was very fortunate to have been loved by many and will be greatly missed. Zelma’s family wish to thank all staff at Colfax General Long Term Care for their wonderful, compassionate and
loving care is given to her.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nathan Ramirez of the First Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery
in Raton. Covid 19 restrictions will apply.
