Feb. 1, 2021 Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bonn, issued a statement on Raton Schools re-entry:
Raton Public Schools is opening in a voluntary hybrid model, Pre-K – 12th grade on Tuesday February 16th; honoring our commitment to give families/staff two weeks’ notice, allow teachers at the secondary level to return to set up their classrooms, and to have all schools inspected by the Fire Marshall. We fully expect to pass the inspections with flying colors.
All protocols and health requirements have been in place since August. Raton Public Schools is exploring various hybrid models to maximize the number of students we can serve based on the number of staff available.
Three barriers to bringing every student back on campus are:
The availability of vaccines for staff. Raton Public Schools is committed to doing all it can to facilitate the vaccination of all staff who want it when it becomes available to 1B in the Department of Health prioritization for vaccination.
Meeting the nine (9) to one (1) student to staff ratio without allowing student cohorts to comingle or congregate
Meeting the ventilation guidelines recently revealed by the Department of Health, Environmental Services and the New Mexico Public Education Department. The ventilation equipment was immediately ordered ad we are anxiously waiting for the devices to arrive.
On Monday, at the February 15th Board Meeting, the district will release various hybrid models that will be available to each school in order to better accommodate each school’s unique needs and maximize the number of students served.
Thank you for your patience and commitment to our students, staff, public health and safety. If you have any additional comments, questions or concerns please feel free to contact the district.
Sincerely,
Dr. Christopher Bonn
Superintendent
