In Loving Memory of Leo Patrick Martinez

Leo Patrick Martinez of Springer, NM went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2021. “Patrick” as he was called by family and friends, was born March 17, 1947, to Leopoldo and Mary Martinez of Ocate, NM. In his younger days, Patrick made it a point to sweep off the driveway every time it snowed just so he could play basketball. That love of the sport carried him all the way to the State Championship in 1966. He would tell you that story if you’d give him your ear. In his 20’s he was a volunteer EMT for the Springer area. He loved to hunt, fish, and be outdoors. He was well known for his jerky and if you’ve ever had any, you’d know why. Patrick was undoubtedly the best pool player in all of Northern New Mexico. He loved to play and to teach the next generation the game as well. One of Patrick’s favorite past times was to dance. If you ever drove by his house, chances are you’d hear his music playing and he’d be spinning someone around. He was the best dance partner you could find. Patrick will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his beloved partner of many years, Theresa Ledoux of Cimarron, sister Agnes Martinez of Pueblo, CO his son Leo Patrick Martinez Jr. and partner Sarah Vigil of Springer, daughters Shawna Martinez of Santa Fe, Misty Sandoval, and husband Jesse of Santa Fe, Kimberly Gilbert and husband Hadley of Clovis, as well as grandkids, Lia, Jake, Scarlett, and Macy. He is also survived by nephew Montana Martinez of Cimarron, Candida Gonzales of Artesia, and Tonya Martinez of Pueblo, CO, as well as many others.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo and Mary, his brother Mario and sister Dina. He also joins 2 of his grandchildren, Leo and Amada.

There will be no services at his request.
