In Loving Memory of Joe Ray Blundell

Joe Ray Blundell, 47, of Las Animas, departed this life on January 5, 2021, at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta, CO. He was born on September 28, 1973, to Larry and Patsy Blundell in Johnson, KS.

When Joe was 4, the family moved back to the family ranch south of Las Animas. When he was young he enjoyed pee wee wrestling and even went to kid’s state. His love for country life, cattle, and horses, also started at a young age. Joe graduated from Las Animas High School in 1991, and after, he attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwill, OK, where he was active in the rodeo. He loved to team rope and qualified to go to the World Series Team Roping in Las Vegas, NV, for 3 years.

Joe worked hard but played harder, you could always find him buying some kind of new toy such as a fire truck (or two). He was always willing to help those in need (branding, moving, trucking, etc.). He had many friends and never knew a stranger. In October of 2003, Joe welcomed his son Leyton. Joe was a good father to Leyton who was the light of his life.

Joe is survived by his son, Leyton Blundell, and special friend Crystal Lenard of the family home; his parents, Larry & Patsy Blundell of Las Animas; his sister Lori (Dwayne) Fritzler of Two Buttes, CO; two nephews, Larry Dale Fritzler of Cameron, OK and Preston Fritzler of Two Buttes; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, January 23, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the family ranch.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Leyton Blundell College Fund, c/o the First National Bank of La Junta, 402 Colorado Avenue, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.
