Elma “Nancy” (Paiz) Marquez of Raton, NM passed away on December 26, 2020. The love for her family, life & knowledge helped her to touch the lives of every soul she encountered. She was an outstanding, generous citizen, and a good friend to many. She was known for her upbeat demeanor, her delightful sense of humor, never-give-in attitude, and her warm, welcoming embrace. She loved to bowl, read books, play board games, and crochet blankets for all the newborn baby’s that came into the family. She will forever be missed and remembered.
Nancy was born October 18, 1951, in Raton, NM to Andres and Elma (Sandoval) Paiz. She was the Second Oldest of Eight Children. She spent most of her life in Raton, NM. She Graduated from Raton High School in 1969 then attended College in Denver, Colorado, and Albuquerque, NM for a short time.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joe A Marquez Sr. of Raton, NM.
Her children; Mia Paiz of Raton, Elma J. Sanchez of Raton, Joseph Paiz (Becky) of Arlington, TX, and Andrea Lucero (DJ) of Thornton, CO.
Her Stepchildren; David Marquez (Joyce) of Albuquerque, NM, Susan Tarufelli (Nick) of Raton, Lisa Valdez (Eli) of Raton, Josephine Encinias (Eddie) of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Marquez (Cassandra) of Walsenburg, CO, Nicole Marquez of Raton, Jack Marquez (Arla) of Aurora, CO, Joe A Marquez Jr. (Angel) of Broomfield, CO.
27 Grandchildren and 31 Great-grandchildren.
Her Mother, Elma (Sandoval) Paiz of Raton, NM, her Brothers; Andy Paiz (Mariella) of Albuquerque, NM, Desi Paiz of Raton, NM, Tom Paiz (Cindy) of Albuquerque, NM, John Paiz (Deby) of Beeville, TX, Ernest Paiz (Karen) of Trinidad, CO, and her Sisters; Maria Licon (Sonny) of Raton, NM, Adela Proctor of Raton, NM.
Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Andres Paiz; her Grandparents, Eufredo and Lucia Sandoval; her nephew Justin Paiz; and her lifelong best friend Nancy Segura.
Nancy will be missed by many.
Rosary and Burial will take place at Fairmont Cemetery on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 9:30 am. Due to Covid-19, all attendees will be required to wear masks and remain at their vehicle.
