Luna Community College has received notification from the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), approving the college for participation in SARA.
Luna is now approved to deliver online instructional content to students residing outside the state of New Mexico. While most of Luna’s instructional content is currently delivered online, not all programs are available for full online completion. The AAS degree in Business Administration is the only fully online program Luna currently offers. Luna’s current agreement with NC-SARA, however, allows out-of-state students to enroll for limited classes and limited work toward program completion with some programs at the college.
NC-SARA is a National Council that provides a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education. SARA’s policies help protect students and provide benefits to both states and institutions carrying out distance education in multiple states. As of April 2020, 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are members of SARA. Luna Community College, along with over 2,100 colleges and universities participate in SARA.
Luna operates under the Higher Learning Commission rule restricting the maximum credit hours earned for a degree program to be no more than 49 percent of online delivery. Credit hours earned during 2020 are exempt from this restriction, and the AAS degree in Business Administration, being a fully online program, is exempt.
