Omer E. Horn age 87 of Raton, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, in Walsenburg, CO. He was born July 27, 1933, in Oberlin, KS, the son of Dick and Ethel Armstrong-Horn. He was born on a farm north of Oberlin, KS, but remained there only three years as his family moved to Cedaredge, CO, as a result of the depression and dust storms that were preventing farming. Omer spent his early years on a small farm north of Cedaredge and later in mining camps in western Colorado. He attended school at times in a one-room country school but went to High School in Cedaredge where he was involved in all sports and in his senior year elected to the Western Slop All-Star team as a defensive right guard. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and flew combat missions in Korea as a B-29 Tail gunner. After the peace treaty was signed he was involved in the cold war operations in Europe and the near east working in C Operations reconnaissance.
Back in civilian life he went to work as an insurance adjuster and spent many years in that field. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Raton serving two terms as Master of Gate City Lodge No 11. He served the Grand Lodge of New Mexico as District Deputy Grand Lecturer for four years and has served on the Masonic Educational Committee and was appointed District Deputy Grand Master. And he was a member of the Raton First United Methodist Church.
Omer is preceded in death by his parents, First Wife June, and two sons. He is survived by his wife Jean Horn of the home, one step-son, Lynn Rice of Denver, CO, granddaughter, Whitney Rice of Denver, and grandson, Matthew Horn and Tony of Grand junction, CO.
By request of the family, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
