The Floersheim family, formerly of Springer, New Mexico, and Atlanta, Georgia sadly announce
the passing of Russell Brian Floersheim (Dubby). On December 17,2A2A, Russell lost his battle
with pancreatic cancer. Those of you who knew him to know he fought to the bitter end. Russ
was 71.
He was born August 14, 1949, in Springer, New Mexico, and was the third son of Myron and
Viola Floersheim. He grew up attending public schools in Springer before enrolling in the New
Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated in 1967, and moved to Atlanta,
GA and attended Georgia State University. ln 1969 Russ enlisted in the United States Navy and
served four years. He spent the bulk of his service time assigned to Moffett Naval Air Station
located in Mountain View, CA, supporting the P-3 Orion which patrolled the West Coast. While
there, Russ enjoyed the live music scene he found in San Francisco and developed a love for
jazz. He also loved the Pacific Coast beaches in Santa Cruz, CA, and spent time there when not
on duty.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Russ relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, and was active in several
commercial enterprises.
Although not large in stature, Russ was a good athlete and excelled at golf. From grade school
on, he was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Braves baseball team which later became the Atlanta
Braves.
Russ dearly loved his dogs, both of which came from rescue facilities. Miss Eddy left before
but was replaced by Miss Lucy who has been adopted by his wonderful neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his two brothers, Richard of Alamogordo, NM; Robert (Bj) of La Quinta, CA;
two nephews, Bruce (Shannon) Floersheim of West Chester, PA; Todd (Laura) Floersheim of
Triangle, VA; and one niece Marci {Jeremy} Silverman of Atlanta, GA.
