Commissioners met Monday evening December 21, 2020 to approve two grant agreements before the 2021 legislative session gets underway in order to dedicate the funds before the legislature decided they need the money more than Raton.

Raton had requested $700,000 for economic development and $300,000 to purchase and equip eight police vehicles in the 2020 capital outlay recommendations. The state legislature approved those requests and the state has finally made the grant agreements available to the city.

The city received $700,000 to plan, design and construct a pre-engineered steel building for economic development purposes. They have until June 2024 to use the funds.

The city received $226,525 to purchase and equip police vehicles for the police department. That amount is much less than requested and the city has until June 2022 to utilize the funds. Unless the police department can get creative this amount will only purchase six new vehicles instead of the eight requested.

Raton city Commissioners will meet again on January 12, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. for their next regular meeting.
