According to too Tyler L. Davis, with Engineering Analytics, Inc., The Great Blocks program on1st Street is progressing well again after some delays during the replacement of the Rio Grande Intersection. The next phase of construction includes replacing the existing Cook Avenue intersection with a decorative concrete intersection. Cook Avenue at 1st Street will be closed to through traffic starting on Monday, November 9, 2020, and is estimated to be closed for approximately two weeks assuming no complications. Business and resident access will still be available along 1st Street and Cook Avenue, but the intersection will be completely closed to through vehicular traffic.
Here are some other updates and information about the project:
- Construction near the intersection of Park Avenue and 1st Street was completed this week, and will be open again to foot traffic starting on Monday!
- Planting has been delayed until the Spring of 2021 to avoid loss of plants through the winter.
- The intersection of the Rio Grande at 1st Street is complete and has re-opened as of today! (go check out the crosswalks for a sneak peek of what’s in store for Cook Avenue)
- After Cook Avenue is reconstructed, the new street lights will start to go up along the east side of 1st Street.
Engineering Analytics and the City of Raton want to thank you for your patience during this construction project. It is in our interest to make sure that the highest quality of project possible gets constructed, which often requires some additional time.
