In Loving Memory of Ruth Evelyn McMurtry

Ruth Evelyn McMurtry age 80 of Raton passed away Friday, September 25, 2020, in Raton. She was born March 19, 1940, in Raton the daughter of Frank and Evelyn Roth-Piancino. “Ruthie” was raised in Raton and was a Raton High School graduate class of 1958, she continued her education at TJC and received her BA from Adams State. December 27, 1964, marked the day that Ruth and Wayne started their journey of love and commitment to each other. “Punk and Bootjack” as they were known in high school, raced off chasing their dreams in Colorado. Ruth taught school in the Pueblo school system, mentoring, inspiring, and guiding young women. The fast track took them to California where she and Wayne became part of a huge NHRA family, traveling and experiencing the thrill of the race. Ruth loved gathering with friends sharing memories, laughs, and life stories along the way. Upon retirement, Ruth and Wayne made their way back to Raton where they started their journey together.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, brother Andrew (Tad) Piancino, nephews David Piancino and Richard Piancino.

Words cannot express the thanks and express the thanks and appreciation of all the caring people who helped throughout Ruth’s final journey.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, 2020, from 2:00 P.FM. Until 4:00 P.M at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton. Services will be Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton with Rev. Tim Sexton officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmont Cemetery in Raton.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite charity.

Due to COVID-19 services will be limited and masks are required.

Arrangements and celebrations of love are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.

    Rest in Peace long time friend Ruth I remember you as athletic, smart and witty. Sad to see your life to end but now you are at peace. Condolences to my friend Wayne whose grief must be immense. He did a wonderful job of caring for Ruth in her final years.
