Larry Lopez Named “Man-of-the-Year” at 2020 Colfax County Fair By Silver Spur Cowbelles

The Silver Spur Cowbelles gives their Man-of-the-Year Award every year during the Colfax County Jr. Livestock Auction and this year the 2020 recognition goes to Larry Lopez.

Lopez is a Colfax County native that grew up on French Tract ranching and farming with his family, and graduated from Springer High School in 1975.

He worked for the New Mexico Boys School for 25 years before his retirement. He also has a plumbing, heating, and septic tank business that has had him very busy for 35 years. Throughout his lifetime he has ranched and continues to do so with his family on the Diamond Arrow Ranch and the Chico Creek Ranch. He is a current member of the French Tract water users association, and has been assisting and donating his services and time to the Colfax County Fair Association since his boys were in 4-H over 30 years ago. He has helped 4-H and FFA youth with making hog waterers, loaning out clippers, giving hog feeders and lamb stands, cages, as well as maintaining the fairgrounds by winterizing the facilities and purchasing Livestock Animals in the sale. He helped in erecting the Miller-Lark Pavilion in 1997 and was one of the contractors for the Sweetwater Valley Kitchen and bathroom project here on the grounds in 2016. He has been a platinum, gold, and silver sponsor of the Colfax County Fair and Rodeo for the past 15 years. He has always felt very strongly about supporting the Colfax County Fair and Rodeo, Colfax County youth, and youth organizations in this area because he grew up here and wants other youth to have the same enjoyable experience growing up here.

Lopez is a generous man and has always supported his family and all they are involved in, putting everyone before himself.

Married for 42 years, Lopez has two sons, a daughter in law, and two grandsons, whom he hopes will continue the tradition and participate in 4-H in Colfax County.

Congratulations Larry Lopez!
