On Thursday, July 9th, 2020, Lillian “Nancy” Valdez, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 73.
Nancy was born on December 20, 1947, in Raton, NM to Abenicio and Eleanor (Rivera) Marquez. Nancy grew up in Raton the youngest girl of her 13 siblings. In January of 1969, Nancy married Felix Valdez. They raised two sons, Floyd and Travis, and two daughters, Denise and Marlene.
Nancy worked as a CNA at Miners Colfax Long Term Care for several years before she retired. She then continued as a caretaker for many elderlies in their homes. Nancy had a passion for cooking and was always willing to feed anyone who entered her home. Quite often feeding numerous friends of her children. Nancy loved to sew and made quilts for many of her family members. She enjoyed going to craft fairs and browsing the thrift stores. Her biggest joy came from spending time with her grandkids whether she was cooking for them, teaching them to make tortillas, or making them laugh with stories of her past.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Felix, her parents, Abenicio and Eleanor, four sisters, Averla Marquez, Mary Martinez, Emily Trujillo, and Georgia Varela, and three brothers, Victor Marquez, Tony Marquez, and Steve Marquez.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Floyd (companion Richard Torres) of Pueblo, CO, Denise (companion John Salazar), Travis (wife Michelle), and Marlene all of Raton. Grandchildren Jarred (children Jeffrey and Bella) of Pueblo, CO, Justin (daughter Leila) of Trinidad, CO, Derrick (wife Christina, children Daesyn and Phoenyx) of Raton, Jordan (fiancé Davin Ada) of Pueblo, CO, McKenna of Pueblo, CO, Mateo (companion Kenna Martinez, children Jett and Ora) of Raton and Dulce of Raton. One sister, Cecelia “Tiny” Manfredi of Raton. Five brothers, George (Lilly), Joe (Nancy), James (Dolores) all of Raton, Gene (Gertrude) of Ely Nevada, Ernest (Cindy) of Carlsbad. Sisters-in-law, Isabel Marquez, and Linda Marquez. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name but not forgotten.
Recitation of The Most Rosary will be held Friday, July 17, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, recited by David Sandoval followed by The Solemn Mass of The Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal Internment will follow Mt. Calvary cemetery. Dinner for family and friends will be held at the home of Travis and Michelle Valdez, 1457 Brilliant St., following the burial.
