Cimarron Healthcare Clinic Announces Colfax County’s Sixth Positive case of COVID-19

The county’s sixth positive COVID-19 was confirmed on Wednesday, June 10 as a result of a test conducted at the Moreno Valley Healthcare Clinic’s drive-through test site. The person with confirmed COVID-19 is in isolation at home. We are currently making our best efforts at contact tracing and all identified possible exposures are isolating at home and will be tested. There is as of yet no identified source of the illness, but there are some possible links outside of Colfax County and all possibilities will be explored together with the assistance of NMDOH epidemiology. At this time it seems unlikely the individual contracted COVID-19 through a community-based spread in Angel Fire. There may likely be a few more positives result in the next few days from tracing contacts of this case.

Cimarron Clinic continues to offer curbside COVID-19 testing Monday through Friday; call ahead to schedule your test @ 575-376-2402. Moreno Valley Healthcare Clinic in Angel Fire continues to offer to drive through testing Monday through Friday, call ahead to schedule your test @ 575-377-3301. There is no point of care or instant test generally available to the public in this region, including in Taos. Currently, the lab turnaround time from swab collection to results reporting is at 2-3 days or a little slower over the weekends.

You should be tested if you had exposure to a known case of COVID-19. You should be tested if you have typical COVID-19 symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, low oxygen, diarrhea, body aches, loss of smell, or taste. You should also be tested if you are a high-risk individual who has ANY suspicion that your symptoms might be COVID-19. Please call the clinic ahead of time to triage your case and discuss getting tested if there’s any question.

You should not be tested if you are not in the workplace, can safely self-isolate at home, have not had exposure, and do not have any symptoms. We do now have expanded and adequate laboratory testing capacity and resources in New Mexico and we have adequate PPE at our testing sites, so please don’t deny yourself a test if there’s any chance you might have contracted the novel coronavirus. We need to increase testing in Colfax County in order to effectively guide public health.

Antibody tests aren’t recommended except in limited circumstances. We do not have access to the IgM “Memory” antibody tests through our lab that some labs have developed, and the accuracy and validity of those antibody tests remain questionable.

As always, if you are experiencing respiratory distress, do not wait to contact us. Call 911 or present immediately to your closest emergency room.
