Mae Corene Cherry, known to her family and friends as Corky died Sunday May 24, 2020 in Clayton, New Mexico.

A celebration of her life will be held in Alaska by her children.

Corky was born on September 27, 1941 to W.A. McClure and Lorene McClure. She was a 1960 graduate of Clayton High School. She was married to Alexander Cherry III in 1961. The marriage was held in Clayton.

She moved with her family to Eagle River, Alaska in July of 1976. As well as being a busy homemaker, Corky worked for Joy Child Care guiding and caring for many young children during her 24-year career.

She returned to Clayton, New Mexico in July 2006. During her retirement years some of the things she enjoyed were gardening, playing cards and jigsaw puzzles. She was an active member of the Clayton Senior Center and The Extension Club. She won many ribbons at the Union County Fair for her doll fashions.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Cherry III; 1 sister, Barbara Hintzer; 1 son, Patrick McClure Cherry.

Corky is survived by:

4 siblings: Joan Lamb of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Bob McClure of Clayton, New Mexico; Rose Kimber of Clayton, New Mexico; Rudy McClure of Salem Oregon.

2 children: Kimila Cherry of Anchorage, Alaska; Alexander Cherry currently living in Clayton, New Mexico to be closer to Corky.

4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
