The Colfax County Building yard was silent Monday morning, Memorial Day, May 25, 2020 until the Colfax County Rapid Response Team chose to make a statement that those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country will not be forgotten.
For a few hours Monday morning this group of volunteers, most of whom are military veterans themselves, chose to stand and hold a United States Flag on the sidewalk in front of the Colfax County Building. A sight that brought emotion and a few tears. On Memorial Day the lawn is usually full of U.S. Flags but according to CCRR member Michael Pais, the VFW, because of the pandemic, chose not to put the flags up this year. When asked why CCRR did it, Pais said, “we chose to.” He went on to add we didn’t take a day off when we were serving or quit when we got sick, we went on.
