In Loving Memory of Mary Loyola Madrid

Mary Loyola Madrid, age 86, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning of Thursday, May 14, 2020, and has joined her beloved husband, Gilbert, in heaven. Mary was born on July 31, 1933, in Springer, New Mexico, the daughter of Donaciano Amparan and Sofia Aguilar Amparan. Mary married her husband, Gilbert, on June 16, 1951, and the couple made their home in Raton, New Mexico. She and Gilbert were the parents of one son and two daughters, grandparents to four granddaughters, and great-grandparents to three great-grandsons. Mary was a homemaker and loved to bowl, garden, play Ms. Pac-Man, bake and decorate cakes, cook, and take walks with her family. Mary was a homeroom mother for all three of her children, president of the PTA, chauffeur for her son’s band and baseball teams, active in the Catholic Church, and a catechism teacher. She was also a gifted musician despite never having a music lesson or learning to read music. She loved to play the accordion and the piano and she loved to sing and dance. Mary loved her family so much and was a devoted wife, mother, Grammy, Great Grammy, sister, aunt, and friend.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband Gilbert, granddaughter Dusti Madrid, brother Tony Amparan, and her parents, Don and Sofia Amparan.
Mary is survived by her children Gilbert Madrid, Jr. and wife Sharon of Castle Rock, Colorado, Cathy Bernal and husband Joe of Raton, Sandra Ulibarri and husband Dennis Driscoll of Longmont, Colorado; Granddaughters Jacqueline Elmore and husband Cade of Amarillo, TX, Gilli Madrid of Salt Lake City, Utah, Genevieve Ulibarri and Anthony Naccarato of Tempe, Arizona; Great Grandsons Gabriel Serio, Vaughn Elmore and Dusti Wolf Norton; siblings Martha Sandoval, Helen Grine, Mary Ann Kaleimamahu and husband Wendell, Don Amparan and wife Lena and many nieces and nephews.
Mary is also survived and remembered by the children and grandchildren of Gilbert Madrid, Jr. and Sharon Madrid; grandchildren Shane Ledford and wife Sara, Angela Bevill and husband Tony and great-grandchildren; Peyton, Gabriella, and Seth Bevill.
Mary and Gilbert’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Catherine Bernal, the couple’s daughter, and devoted caregiver. Cathy never left their sides and because of her care and devotion both Gilbert and Mary were able to remain comfortably in their home until their final days.
At Mary’s request, no services have been planned, but the family requests that you remember her in your prayers and that her loving memory is always kept in your hearts.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Yaksich Long Funeral Home.
