Historic Main Street will be Hosting Virtual Cash Mobs in Trinidad, CO

Trinidad, CO-Trinidad Historic Main Street in conjunction with the Raton Main St., are working to help local businesses survive during the unprecedented economic hardship. What better way than to invite everyone to your store for a virtual party? Many businesses are using the internet to conduct businesses, including virtual meetings and online ordering. Facebook Live is often used for gatherings as well, including virtual cash mobs. What is a cash mob, you ask? Inspired by “flash mobs,” a cash mob occurs when a group of people assembles at a business to make purchases. Since we cannot have a group of people assemble, we are going to assemble virtually using Facebook Live.

The Main Street Board recently had a virtual meeting with Geoff Peterson from the Center for Community Innovation in Raton, Jessica Barfield, Economic Development Director, City of Raton, and Brenda Ferri from Raton Main Street. Raton has a Facebook page dedicated to cash mobs. They have been very successful in the past year holding cash mob events at local Raton Businesses. Recently, they have held very successful Facebook Live cash mobs.

Trinidad will hold their first cash mob on Friday, April 24th, from 6-8 PM at Curly’s Bead and Gift Emporium. Camilla Campbell, the owner of Curly’s, has selected over sixty of her favorite items from her unique gift shop. A member of the Main Street group will be on-site to film Camilla LIVE as she describes, in detail, each of the items. Anyone who is watching the Facebook live event can message when he or she is interested in the purchase. The first person to offer to purchase the item is committed. Other members of Main Street board will be monitoring the Facebook event and message the buyer with instructions. The next day, Camilla will send an invoice. She will accept PayPal, cash, or check. Each buyer will arrange his or her pick-up with the shop owner.

Main Street Board is committed to helping our local business survive and even prosper during this crisis. They are planning to host cash mobs for other businesses the following weeks, including Trinidad Higher Calling U CBD and Oxygen Bar. Be sure to like “Trinidad Historic Main Street” on Facebook for announcements of upcoming “Virtual Cash Mob” events in Trinidad. If your business is interested in hosting an upcoming virtual cash mob, please call Penny Saeedi at 719-859-2584.
