Lavera (Monroe) Lawrence, age 85, died on Saturday, March 14, 2020, in Clayton, New Mexico.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Lavera (Monroe) Lawrence was born on January 9, 1935, one mile east of Stead, New Mexico to Charles Henry Monroe and Sydney C. (Hoover) Monroe and they moved to Clayton when she was 11 years old. Lavera married Richard E. Lawrence on February 2, 1951, in Clayton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2009. They lived and worked in Amarillo, Texas for a few years before moving back to Clayton. In addition to her parents and husband, Lavera was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Dorothy Boggs, Gladys Mangelsdorf and Lorene Barnhart and 6 brothers; Charles H. Monroe, Jr., Marion Monroe, Claude Monroe, Donald Monroe, Earnest Monroe, and Larry Lee Monroe.
SURVIVORS:
4 SONS: Jimmy Lawrence and his wife Eva, Jack Lawrence and Billy Lawrence all of Clayton, New Mexico, and Alan Lawrence and his wife Patty of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
1 DAUGHTER: Reba Cox of Clayton, New Mexico.
5 Grandchildren, 7 Step-Grandchildren
2 SISTERS: Cleona Spriggs of Alpine, Texas and Jeanette Mangelsdorf of Amarillo, Texas.
And several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
MEMORIALS: The family asks that memorials be made in Lavera’s memory to Union County General Hospital, 300 Wilson Street, Clayton, New Mexico 88415.
