Guy H. Owensby, age 94, passed away at his home on February 20, 2020 in Apex, North Carolina.
He was born on February 7, 1926, the youngest child of Fred Talmadge Owensby and Dulcie Bowles Owensby. Born in the coal mining camp of Hagan, New Mexico, Guy lived in many of the surrounding coal camps of Raton. He attended The Raton Elementary School and graduated from high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he met his future wife, Patsy Jordan.
After graduation, he served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Eldorado (AGC-11) in the South Pacific during combat at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Guy was honorably discharged in 1946 and married Patsy Jordan.
He attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque after the war, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1950. After graduating Guy moved to Texas and worked as a manager for Rio Grande Insurance Agency and as a territory representative for the Frederick Post Company. In 1967, he became manager of the engineering department at Paul Anderson Company. He later joined GAF as a territory representative and retired in 1988 in San Antonio, Texas where he and his wife resided for over fifty years. Guy was also a resident of Annapolis, Maryland for seven years before relocating to Apex, North Carolina. Guy will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved family, music, the outdoors, building projects and as one who could fix just about anything.
Guy was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Owensby; and sisters, Helen Walton, Sylvia Yardis and Frieda Giacomo.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Patsy J. Owensby; three children, Phillip (Margie) Owensby of Folsom, New Mexico, Kristy (Terry) Woody of Apex, North Carolina, Lisa (Chris) Spory of Cabot, Arkansas; four granddaughters; two grandsons and four great grandsons.
Guy H. Owensby will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later date.
