A Meeting of the Advisory Group for RCS Corp will be on Saturday, February 22nd from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at K-Bob’s Steakhouse

A Brief Introduction to RatonHelp.org also Known as Raton Community Services Corporation (RCS Corp)

We have created the Raton Community Services Corporation (RCS Corp) as a nonprofit organization to address the unmet needs of low to moderate income individuals and families as well as under-served populations in our community. Our initial goal is to establish a Peer Wellness Center where individuals and families can come and meet with others who have experienced similar problems. The Peer Wellness Center will be staffed with Certified Peer Support Workers (CPSW’s) and volunteers. We will refer those who contact us to available resources in the community, and where resources do not exist, we will strive to create them.

Raton Community Services Corporation depends on its Advisory Group to keep in touch with the unmet needs of the community. The next meeting of the Advisory Group will be on Saturday, February 22nd from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at K-Bob’s Steakhouse, 1228 S 2nd St, Raton. Participants are responsible for their own meal costs. All concerned individuals and families are encouraged to join with us for a discussion of unmet community needs.

Raton Community Services Corporation held its initial organizational meeting on Saturday, February 1st. Bylaws were adopted. Officers elected were Peg Albert, President; Paul Jenkins, Vice President; Kelly Smith-Yancey, Secretary; and RP Romero, Treasurer. Additional Directors elected were Leonore Barfield, Tina Bird, Bert Dennis, and Bret Maples. The Board will meet regularly on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the GrowRaton! office.  Between Board meetings, an Executive Committee made up of the four officers and Bret Maples will meet to deal with any urgent needs. 🙂

Why should I volunteer in Raton?

And while studies do show that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment. Even giving in simple ways can help those in need and improve your overall health and happiness. So, call us and we can get you started today.

What is peer to peer?
A peer support group is a regular gathering of men and women with the lived experience. Usually once each month, these individuals come together, overseen by a trained peer support specialist or facilitator, to talk with one another about their experiences, struggles and challenges. If you would like to be trained as a peer to peer specialist please call Peg Albert to discuss this matter.

“I have a vision for this town and I want desperately to bring the PEER Network to Raton. Our residents won’t go into a clinic, so I want to give everyone a safe space to come and get help with no judgment. Peers helping Peers is a beautiful thing to watch. I’ve watched a kid with turrets helping an kid with autism. Age doesn’t matter. We as a community need to come together and learn to help one another. I want to give everyone a safe place and an ideology to make it happen.”
