In Loving Memory of Barbara Allene Hallas Lee

Barbara Allene Hallas Lee was born in Delagua, Co on Sept. 12, 1920 and passed away softly on February 18, 2020, at the age of 99, in Walsenburg, CO. The life in between those dates was a life filled with kindness, courage, hard work, compassion, faith, inspiration but most of all love for her family.

Barbara is survived by her children, Kathy Quigg (Lewis), Robert E. Lee, Barbara Hill (Cherokee), Lillian Clark (Chuck) and John Lee (Amy); Grandchildren Amy Giuliano (Michael Cruz), Rob Lee (Denise), Jason Lee, Michael Lee and Joseph Lee; Great-grandchildren, Rebecca Borja(Horatio), Andrew Lee, Delanie Lee and Katie Cruz and soon to be great-great grandson, Leonardo Borja.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Ray Lee, parents Allen and Olive Hallas, brother, Ernie Hallas and infant son, James Allen Lee.

Lee’s Bar-B-Q, a true curb service drive-in, was opened in 1938 by Ray Lee and started a legacy of good food –burgers, big brothers, chili burgers and, of course, chili fries. Barbara and Ray, along with their children, worked hard to provide fond memories and good food for generations of hungry people,

Though time took its toll on her body and she retreated into the mist, she never stopped loving her family and friends or smiling at them with her radiant smile and sparkling blue eyes. Mom’s happiest moments were those when her family was gathered around her to celebrate birthdays and holidays – especially Christmas!

Barbara was loved by so many people who were blessed by her kindness and hospitality. She truly graced the world with her sweet and lovely presence – she loved, and was loved, deeply.

Barbara was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church in Trinidad, CO. She loved all of her sisters in Chapter J PEO and enjoyed more than 50 years of their friendship, fun and philanthropy.

Special thanks to the Legacy in Trinidad for the happy years she lived there and to the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg for so many years of their tender, loving care.

Barbara always said “I want all my flowers while I’m living”, so in keeping with her wishes, in lieu of flowers her life can best be celebrated by contributions to Chapter J PEO, c/o Carol Gibson, 937 Stonewall Ave., Trinidad, CO 81082.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Comi Funeral Home, 1804 E. Main St., Trinidad, CO. Interment immediately following at The Masonic Cemetery, Trinidad, CO.
