The St Mikes Horsemen travelled up I-25 to the jungle Saturday, January 25, 2020 where they tamed the Tigers in a three game sweep much like the Lady Horsemen caged the Lady Tigers on Friday night in Santa Fe for a 63-19 district win.
The C-Team game was a tough defensive match up that saw the Horsemen hold Raton to single digits scores the entire game with the third quarter being the runaway quarter where St Mikes out scored Raton 25-3. When the final buzzer sounded it was a 69 to 19 Horsemen win.
The JV Game was was more of a first half smash for St Mikes as they held Raton to only eight points the first half but Raton found held on and battled back in the second half. Scoring double digits Raton threatened but St Mikes was simply to strong to overcome. The final score was 53-36 St Mikes.
The Raton varsity started off slow as the St Mikes defense stole the ball several times and finished off Raton with 17 steals in the game. The referees allowed the boys to play and neither team had more than eight team fouls while Dylan Quartieri was the only Raton player to foul out of the game St Mikes only had one player, Thomas Wood with four fouls.
The game battled on but it was the fourth quarter that was the big undoing of Raton as they only managed two points the entire quarter which came from Dylan Quartieri before he fouled out. When the final tic tocced off the clock St Mikes had a 31 lead for a 66-35 win.
