Sarah (Cimino) Ringo,96, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 17 at the Spanish Peaks Veteran’s Community Living Center in Walsenburg, Colorado.
Sarah was born on June 17, 1923 in Jansen, Colorado as the 9th of 11 children to Mary Carpita and Domenic Cimino. She was a lifelong resident of the area having lived in Jansen, Valdez, and Trinidad until her move to Walsenburg where she resided for several years.
Sarah was a proud graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic High School and worked at the State of Colorado Employment Office where she met Sam P. Ringo, a returning war veteran.
On June 8th, 1947 she was married to Sam and they celebrated 66 years until his death in 2013. Early in their marriage, Sarah was primarily a house wife and mother to their 4 children.
However, Sarah had an active and supportive role helping Sam with family business at Ringo’s store in the Valdez mining community. That business later grew to include the Ringo’s Super Trading Post in Segundo, the Fisher’s Peak Market on Santa Fe Trail and the Ringo Brothers Chevron bulk plant.
In 1967 Sarah returned to the work force and was a member of the clerical staff at the Las Animas County Department of Human Services until her retirement in 1985.
Sarah is survived by her children; Markala (Stanley) Stanton- Kermin, California, Sam (Janice Hoover) Ringo- Rye, Colorado, Lucille (Anthony) Mattie-Trinidad, Colorado and Tom Ringo-Pueblo Colorado. Sarah has 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brother, Carl from San Diego, California; her sister, Lena DeJoy, Littleton, Colorado; and her sisters in law, Marge Cimino, Littleton, Colorado and Patti Ringo, Walsenburg, Colorado;, and her close friend of many years, Phyllis Mazza.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, her parents, and her siblings and/or their spouses, including; Vince (Vera) Cimino, Faye (Tony) Antista, Frances (Joe) Antista, Nick (Evelyn) Cimino, Tom (Lena) Cimino, Frank (Lucille) Cimino, Rose (John) Galasso, Tessa Cimino, Charles Dejoy, and Domenic Cimino.
Sarah was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers in law, including: Tony Ringo, Frances and Sam Garbo, Clara and Louie Michelli, Pete and Alice Ringo, Victor and Florence Ringo, Sandina and Walter Kerr, and Nick Ringo Jr.
Those who knew Sarah will smile as they remember her for her unwavering Catholic faith and being ever-present to help make meat balls for the Mt. Carmel Parish festivals. Her devotion to the Rosary was a daily reminder of the strength of her faith. Sarah’s commitment to her family was unparalleled and without limits. Sarah’s moral compass and unyielding sense of values served to inspire many. There was never one more guest that her dining table could not accommodate.
Active pall bearers Jess Ringo, Danny Mattie, Brady Carpenter, Shane Schloss, Chad Worgram, and Jason Jenkins. Honorary pall bearers are her many nieces and nephews.
There will be a public viewing on Thursday, January 23rd, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Comi Funeral Home. On Friday, January 24th, a Rosary will be recited at Comi Funeral Home at 9:00am and a Funeral Mass will follow at Holy Trinity Church at 10:00am.
Sarah will then be entombed into her final resting place beside her beloved, Sam, at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Sarah’s family kindly requests that memorial contributions in her memory should be made to the Holy Trinity Church Restoration Fund or the Mt. Carmel Center.
