Tiger Fest Royalty Crowned as Raton Takes Three of Four

It was a TigerFest kind of day in Raton as TigerFest royalty was crowned and Raton hosted Clayton  for an afternoon and evening of faced paced basketball.

The day began with Mum presentations to parents Saturday afternoon in Tiger Gym followed by the girls Jv game which had a final point total more like a football game than a basketball game as the girls battled it out on the court. Clayton lead the game 12 to 6 at halftime but Raton rallied in the fourth dropping 13 points to win the game 24 to 18.

The boys Jv game was another close one at the wire after Clayton lead the first half and went into the locker room with a 23-17 lead. But once again the fourth quarter brought the fireworks as Raton took a 12 point lead and watched Clayton score six quick points to threaten that lead. When the final buzzer sounded and the dust cleared it was a win for the Raton boys 53-48.

The Clayton YellowJackettes however continued their dominance from last weeks game with Raton where they easily won that match up. The game in Raton however was a little more challenging as the Lady Tigers showed improvement on both defense and offense this time scoring more in the first quarter than they did in the first half in Clayton. At the buzzer it was still a wide spread marking on the scoreboard with Clayton posting 60 points to Raton’s 18.

Raton’s first quarter was the big one for the boys as they posted 23 points to Clayton’s 11. Raton continued the scoring into the second quarter and headed to the locker room with a 44-20 lead over Clayton. The second half saw both Raton and Clayton playing strong defense and holding the scores down. At the final buzzer of the night Raton took the win with a 69 to 43 score.
