Jacobo (Jake) Tapia Jr. age 93 of Raton, passed away Sunday December 29, 2019 in Raton, He was born November 27, 1926 In San Jose, NM, the son of Jacobo Tapia Sr and Louisa Garcia-Tapia. Jake was a WW II veteran serving in the United States Army, he was a retired coal miner of 42 years, a member ot the U.M.W.A a member of St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton, former president of the U.M.W.A Local 7949 and former Pit Community Local 7949.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, daughter Louisa, son-in-law Phillip Larry Cordova and brother-in-law Leo Atencio. He is survived by 4 daughters, Kathy Esteves and husband Emanuel of Commerce CityCO., Lorraine Cordova of Denver, CO, Ann Marie Lewis and husband Lance of Denver, CO, and Shannon Mack and husband Bobby of Hartsville, SC. Three sons, Andrew Tapia and wife Shirley of Raton, Jake Tapia III and wife Rosalie of Tuscaloosa, ALB, and George Tapia and wife Courtney of Tuscaloosa, ALB. 5 sisters, Carmen Atencio of Denver, CO, Rita Chavez of Las Vegas, NM, Rosalina Espinoza and Rose Mary and husband Michael and Lupe Ortiz all of Albuquerque, NM, one brother Ben Tapia and wife Laura of Albuquerque, NM. 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday January 5, 2020 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Monday January 6, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Deacon Tom Alderette, Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:20 with Father William Woytavice as the celebrant. Rite of christian burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton. Military Honors will be provided by the Raton. V.F.W.
