Oletha Britton was considered a very elegant, sweet country woman. She was raised around farming and gardening in her younger days. She was born on July 9, 1929 to Richard and Zella Newman in Oklahoma. Oletha learned at an early age about working hard and appreciated what she had. When she was 3 her brother Donald came into the family and when she was 4 a sister Ellen Boone was added to the family. She got to go to school in Turpin, Oklahoma her first 3 years. Then in 1937 her parents bought a place west of Perryton where she finished her schooling. After graduating high school she went to Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado where she attended 2 years. After graduating, she went to Photography school for a year in Dallas, Texas and then started working at Perry’s Photography. She started renting a room from her cousin in town and later she met and married Winston F. Britton on November 18, 1950 in her parents home in Perryton, Texas and he preceded her in death on August 14, 2004. On October 17, 1951 they had their first child, a girl, Vicki Weis. They got a little taste of town life while her husband had a job delivering newspapers. He later got a job out in the country farming and ranching. On August 26, 1954 they added a second child, Richard. She was very proud of her children. She started her first garden and had some chickens to take care of. She learned about tending her garden and learned the art of canning green beans and making pickles and loved doing it. On December 4, 1957 they had their third child Edwin. She worked hard to take care of her children and husband. They later moved to Clayton, ew Mexico where Winston was a ranch foreman. Oletha was a member of the extension clubs in Perryton and Clayton and served as President, Secretary and Treasurer while in Clayton. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and canning. Oletha could always make something out of nothing. In addition to her parents and husband, Oletha was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Britton and a brother, Donald Britton.
