Mary Josephine (China) Vigil was called to be with Our Lord on November 17, 2019. She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Julio and Sofia Chavez. Paternal grandparents, Nestor and Josefita Chavez, Maternal grandparents, Rubel and Eloisa Cordova, Brothers, Julian “Mo” Chavez and Benny “Cale” Chavez and Sisters, Baby Mary Alice Chavez and Margie Armijo.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Tony Vigil of (Rio Ranchi/Raton). Brothers: Tommy Chavez of Redman, Oregon; Junior Chavez (Angie); Albert Chavez (Frances) and twin brother, Joseph (Che) Chavez (Louise) all of Springer. Deacon Gilbert Chavez of Capitan, and Ernie Chavez of Thornton, Colorado. Sisters, Stella Agullar, Patsy (Ballard) Henrie and Lorraine Quintana all of Springer and Theresa Lopez (Ernie) of Maxwell. She is also survived by Brother-in-laws, Mike (Alice) of Miami; Henry (Patsy) of Capitan, Jake (Alice) of Albuquerque and Dennis (Juanita) of Roswell. Victoria and husband Gilbert Aragon, their adopted family. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Josie and Tony enjoyed traveling together to many places. She loved camping and going to the casinos. She was a loving, caring wife, sister, sister-in-law and friend to many. She was loved by many, both in Raton and Rio Rancho.
Josie loved the Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was an active member of the parish. She taught catechism to many children; some of them referred to her a “Mom”. She also sang in the choir for many years.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Friday November 22, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton recited by the Knights of Columbus, Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 A.M. with Father John Brasher as the celebrant. Rite of Christian burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton.
A reception dinner will follow after the internment at the St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.
Arrangements and celebration of love for Mary Josephine (China) Vigil are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
We were so saddened to learn of Mary’s passing. She and Tony were special folks that we thought so much of during our years in Raton.
She was so friendly and had that infectious smile and laugh, and Tony was our electrician who would come day or night in emergency, not
only to us but Annie Ruth as well. Good people to know.
