In Loving Memory of Betty Helen Rea

Betty Helen Rea, 89, formerly of Raton, New Mexico and most recently of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 23, 2019 at the Morning Star Assisted Senior Living and Memory Care facility following a brief illness. Betty was born in Aguilar, Colorado on January 8, 1930 to the family of Albin Adamkewech and Dorothea Cienski.

Betty was a humble, inspirational servant. She always had an uplifting greeting for everyone, many times followed by one of her many jokes. Her career spanned more that four decades. She taught in Colorado, California, New Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, and Ecuador finally retiring in 1989.

As a highly respected educator, businesswoman, Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Realtor and member of numerous other clubs and societies, her legacy will live on through the many lives she influenced.

Betty had a unique strength, rooted in her faith in God and people. It was as if she was always on a mission. She took on, without fear, what was dealt her. She wholeheartedly believed in God and was very attentive to God’s wishes. She believed, without a doubt, Jesus was going to take her home and he did!

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Albin Adamkewech and Dorothea Cienski; her sisters Jennie, Sofia, and Adeline; and a nephew, Brian.

Survivors include her niece, Emilie (Roy) Woody of Riverton, Wyoming; David (Marta) Caputo of Medellín, Colombia; and Bruce Tepley of Costa Mesa, California; along with a host of great nieces, great nephews as well as many close and treasured friends. Also surviving are her beloved god son, Sean McIntyre; and her long time friend, Agnes Garcia.

Rosary will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, 10:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately at 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick-St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 Buena Vista St, Raton, NM 87740. Inurnment will follow at the Aguilar Cemetery, Aguilar, Colorado.
