Alice I. Gutierrez, Born January 4, 1925
Rejoined the Lord and her family on October 9, 2019.
Alice was a graduate of Primero High School and Trinidad State Jr. College in the first Practical Nursing Class, receiving her license in Practical Nursing in 1956. Alice worked at the old Mt. San Rafael Hospital for the Sisters of Charity; for Dr. Gloria Scufka for 5 years; for Hoehne School system for 9 years in the Resource room; worked for Trinidad State Nursing Home for almost 30 years as Charge Nurse, part time Nurse, then substitute Nurse until her retirement.
Alice was an avid bowler in three leagues for many years. She took art under Lee Shulin and Lois Peterson. Her artwork has been viewed by many.
She was preceded in death by husband, Reuben Gutierrez. She is survived by children, Jeanette (Ron) Trujillo, son Harold (Debbie) Gutierrez, daughter Myra Gutierrez, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be Friday, October 18, 2019 at 10am at the Comi Chapel.
Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Alice suffered from Lupus. She left this message to all her relatives and friends:
“Absolutely, no rites in a gloom filled room—why cry for a soul set free, I’m following the path God has laid you see.” Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish you all the sunshine of tomorrow. My life has been full, I savored much, perhaps my time seemed all too brief-don’t lengthen now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now, he set me free.
