Josephine M. Montero, age 93, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Mount San Rafael Hospital, a caring and loving facility, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Albert and Clara (Maniscalco) Iuppa Sr. in Trinidad, Colorado, on November 18, 1925, the first of five children. Josephine attended area schools, graduating from Trinidad High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to John G. Montero on April 17, 1948. Josephine had a long career with Mountain Bell Telephone Company where she worked from 1946 until her retirement in December of 1976. Upon her retirement Josephine spent her days helping to care for her four grandchildren, who were truly the highlight of her life.
Josephine is survived by her daughter Karen and son-in-law Ed Griego and daughter Joanne Montero all of Trinidad. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jean (Patrick) Incitti of Denver, her devoted and loving granddaughter and caregiver Kathleen Griego (Frank Falsetto) of Trinidad, Jeff Montoya (Samantha Steidl), Jerrod Montoya and great granddaughter Kayla Incitti, all of Denver. Also surviving Josephine are siblings Albert Iuppa, Jr. and Charlotte Iuppa both of Trinidad, Mae (Sonny) Regusa of Raton and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband John on July 17, 1988, her parents Albert and Clara Iuppa, her in-laws Guy and Mary Montera, sister and brother-in-law Jack and Mary Helen Galasso, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Frank and Angie Montera, Joe and Rose Marchiol, Pete and Thelma Montera, Art and Edith Stancato, and Marilyn Iuppa.
Visitation will be held at the Comi Funeral Home on Thursday, October 10th from 4-7 p.m. Burial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church followed by entombment at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Jerry Iuppa, Michael Mattorano, Bill Naccarato, Rich LaGuardia, Steve Marchiol and Paul Montera.
Memorial contributions may be made in Josephine’s name to the Mount San Rafael Hospital Building Fund.
