Raton meets Tucumcari for Home Opener in Tiger Gym Thursday Evening

Raton had an unexpected early home opener Thursday evening September 12th as the match with Tucumcari was moved to Raton Wednesday afternoon where Tucumcari took the match in four games.
The C-team started out the afternoon taking their match to three games with both teams splitting the first two 25-17- and 17-25. Tucumcari wrapped up the match with a 15-8 win in the third.
Raton’s JV finally ended game one with a 27-25 then followed up game two with a familiar score of 25-17.
The Raton varsity team took the early lead in the first two games of the match but struggled mid game to loose the leads and the game. Raton at one point in game two had a six point lead only to allow Tucumcari to come back for the win.
In game three Raton again allowed Tucumcari to come back from a seven point lead and tie at 18. Both team then started some long volleys lasting several trips over the net before one team managed to slam it home. Raton and Tucumcari battled it thing the game at 26 before Raton managed to put two away and pull it out 28-26. Game for turned out to be all Tucumcari as they took off early and extended the three lead by as much as six early on and never looked back taking the game for the win.
