In Loving Memory of Bonnie Darlene (Gibson) Wood

Bonnie passed away August 28th, 2019 in Bernalillo, NM. She was born November 26th, 1940 in Manassa, Colorado to Chester Sherman Gibson and Marjorie E. (Moore) Gibson.
Her father joined the military in April, 1945 when she was only 4 years old. Her and her mother stayed in Albuquerque until Sherman returned. She was in the Albuquerque school system until graduating from Highland High School.
Soon after high school, Bonnie married her childhood sweetheart, LeRoy Walter Wood, on November 20th, 1959. LeRoy began work on the Hayward/Hanson Ranch between Miami and Cimarron, NM and the city girl quickly adapted to being the wife of a farmer/rancher. Two of their children, Robyn and Wade, were born while on the ranch. After a few years, LeRoy found work in Bosque Farms where their third child, Wesley, was born.
LeRoy and Bonnie worked and lived in various places for a few years until they returned to the Hayward place and this was where her greatest memories of being together and raising their family occurred. Wherever he was, Bonnie, with her children in tow, was close behind. She spent her life by his side, whether it was driving tractors, hauling hay, irrigating fields or sitting in the bleachers watching her children play sports. She and LeRoy seldom, if ever, missed any sporting event that one of their children participated in.
When Wesley graduated high school in 1984, the couple moved to Las Cruces, NM, hoping the warm weather would help her arthritis. After a few years, they moved to Fountain Hills, AZ. The warmer climate seemed to help but northeastern NM soon called them back. After moving to Dalhart, TX for a short time, LeRoy and Bonnie settled in Clayton, NM. While in Clayton, she worked steadily alongside him as his entrepreneurial spirit led them to many different careers and adventures. During their 60 years together, LeRoy and Bonnie traveled the world and enjoyed every day of their life together and were seldom seen apart.
In 2016, they moved to Bernalillo to assist and be close to her father, who soon passed away. Bonnie never complained over the forty years of terrible pain from arthritis. She was always quick witted and never missed a chance to say how proud she was of her family. Bonnie asked that her body be donated to the science and research department of the University of New Mexico’s teaching hospital. She was a devout Christian throughout life and did her best to spread the gospel truth, always giving and wanting to help others.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, LeRoy, one daughter, Robyn Millard and her husband Steven of Mora, NM, two sons, Wade and his wife Lisa of Rociada, NM, Wesley and his wife Dolores of Peralta, NM, one sister, Sharon and her husband Jack Jones of McLean, Virginia, thirteen grandchildren, 21 great grand children and many nieces and nephews. An open memorial service will be held at the Ramada Inn, I-40 & Eubank, 25 Hotel Circle Ave, NE Albuquerque on Saturday, September 7th,2019 from 12:00 until 3:00 pm. Everyone is invited to come and share stories and memories about this amazing woman’s life.
