This fishing report, provided by Dustin Berg and Go Unlimited (supporting disabled anglers) and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Zachary Sletten of Albuquerque caught a 5-pound bass using a Whopper Plopper July 16.
Bill Evans Lake: Richard Dominguez of Hurley caught and released a 6.9-pound largemouth bass using a drop shot rig July 20.
Canjilon Lakes: Olivia Maestas, age 6, of Albuquerque caught a 16.5-inch rainbow trout using her Frozen Princess Fishing pole with a worm as bait July 20.
Cochiti Lake: Emilio Hernandez, age 11, of Albuquerque caught a 4-pound, 6-ounce, 21-inch long carp at the Tetilla Peak dock fishing with a hotdog July 20.
Elephant Butte Lake: Kristen Ferguson of Los Lunas caught her first walleye. It was 30-inches long and weighed in at 7.8-pounds. She caught it using minnows on live bait jigs July 20.
Lake Maloya: Samantha Quinonez, age 19, of Las Vegas caught a 19-inch rainbow trout that weighed 3.2-pounds. She caught this fish using garlic PowerBait July 21.
Navajo Lake: Brothers Tatum, age 12, and Waylon Lowe, age 11, of Albuquerque caught and released over 50 smallmouth bass each jigging plastic worms and crawdads in the rocks near shore at Francis Canyon between July 18 and 21.
Oasis Park Lake: Miguel Barrera of Clovis caught a 16.5-inch largemouth bass using a minnow crankbait July 20.
Seven Springs Hatchery: Jace Martinez, age 7, of Las Vegas, Nevada caught a 16-inch rainbow trout on his first cast using a Black Wooly Bugger on July 20. Julian Schutte, age 9, of Rio Rancho caught and released a 7-pound 3-ounce brown trout using PowerBait on his 9th birthday July 22.
Ute Lake: Laura Walker of Amarillo caught and released a 5.06-pound black bass using a minnow on a crappie rig July 20. To top it off, it was Laura’s 60th birthday. Jeff Boulware of Edgewood caught a 5.68-pound smallmouth bass using watermelon colored plastics July 20.
The following reports came in late, but are definitely worth mentioning:
Eagle Nest Lake: Dion Jackson of Taos Pueblo caught a 43-inch 21.6-pound pike using worms and fishing on the bottom of the lake on July 14.
Hopewell Lake: Lawrence Davis Jr., age 10, of Albuquerque caught a 15-inch brook trout using green PowerBait with a worm July 6.
Navajo Lake: Ron and Debbie Gomez of Albuquerque caught a 28-inch brown trout while trolling for salmon July 12. They were trolling at a depth of 49-feet near the spillway.
Seven Springs Hatchery: Carson Williamson, age 6, of Albuquerque caught an 18-inch, 2.5-pound rainbow trout using pink PowerBait on July 13.

Northeast Fishing Report
Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday morning was 33.7 cfs. Fishing was good using woolly buggers and dry flies.
Clayton Lake: Fishing for walleye and trout has been slow. Fishing for catfish has been fair using chicken liver as bait. The boat ramp is closed due to low water levels.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was very good using worms for bluegill. Fishing was fair using minnows and small plastic baits for crappie. Fishing was good using senkos, jigs, tubes and creature baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using crank baits for white bass. Fishing was fair to good using bottom bouncer spinner and worm rigs and minnow rigs for walleye. Jig heads with curly tail grub and minnow and worm combinations are also working well for walleye. Fishing was fair using cut bait, worms and liver for catfish.
Costilla Creek: Stream flow near Costilla on Monday was 102 cfs. Fishing is fair using yellow sallies, hoppers, stimulators and small bead head mayfly nymphs.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was fair for trout using bright colored spinners and PowerBait. Fishing was good for perch in the mornings and evenings using a strike indicator with flies such as San Juan worm and black and tan wooly buggers. Anglers using worms were also catching perch. A few pike and kokanee salmon were caught by anglers, but reports were limited.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes, spinners, worms, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.
Fawn Lakes: One angler reported this week that high runoff water has created poor fishing conditions.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: Fishing was good for trout using worms, salmon eggs, peach PowerBait and large fly patterns such as wooly buggers and Pistol Petes.
Lake Alice: Fishing for trout was fair using a fly below a bobber.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, spoons, spinners and PowerBait for trout.
Los Pinos River: Fishing was good for anglers using woolly buggers and parachute Adams flies.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was fair to good for trout using worms.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, spinners, dry flies and grasshoppers for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for a renovation project on the dam and no firm opening date has been set.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 78.8 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait, worms, salmon eggs, wooly buggers, leach pattern flies and Panther Martin spinners.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 73.6 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs with split shot weights, Panther Martin spinners, tungsten bead head nymphs and large dry flies.
Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge was 1,670 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species and the water level is high and murky.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Valdez was 49.2 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using small spinners and salmon eggs.
Rio Mora: Stream flow on Monday morning was 19.6 cfs. Fishing the upper river for trout was fair to good using worms.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Penasco was 17.0 cfs. Trout fishing has been good using parachute Adams, caddis and stimulator flies. Some stocked rainbow trout are being caught on bead head nymphs. Anglers using worms are also having success.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was fair using Z-Rays, Rapala Countdowns, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.
Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week. Fishing is open on the Valle Vidal, including Shuree Ponds, July 1- December 31.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was very good using nightcrawlers for bluegill. Fishing was good for smallmouth and largemouth bass using ned rigs, plastic crawdads, tubes, senkos (rigged wacky) and grubs on brushy points and deeper drop-offs. Good plastic bass bait colors have been natural, green, pumpkin and watermelon. Fishing was fair to good for white bass jigging in 25 feet of water at the mouth of various coves. Fishing was fair using jigs, gulp minnows, nightcrawlers and live minnows for walleye in 25 to 35 feet of water. Fishing for catfish was good using liver and stink bait. Fishing for crappie was slow. The surface water temperature was in the low 80s.
Northwest Fishing Report
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing for walleye was good. Several people caught limits using jigs with chartreuse or yellow curly tails, or yellow crank baits, in 10-14 feet of water. Some anglers fishing from the bank did good using nightcrawlers for a mixed bag of walleye, catfish, smallmouth bass, bluegill, perch and crappie. Due to low water levels anglers are advised to use four-wheel drive vehicles to launch boats and watch for obstructions on the water.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 1,650 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing for bass was good using micro crankbaits, Whopper Ploppers and plastic worms.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was very good for bank and boat anglers fishing for tiger muskie using jerkbaits, square bill crankbaits, spinnerbaits, streamer flies and tiger muskie were caught on top water lures as well. Fishing for catfish at night was fair using stink bait, hotdogs and waterdogs. Trout fishing was slow. No one reported catching any trout this weekend!
Brazos River: Fishing was good using pheasant tail nymphs, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Canjilon Lakes: Fishing was fair to good using worms, spinners, Pistol Petes and PowerBait for trout.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 204 cfs and 337 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was good using night crawlers, streamers, wooly buggers, flies, Panther Martins and PowerBait for brown and rainbow trout. Fishing was slow below Abiquiu Dam.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing has been slow to fair for bass using nightcrawlers. Fishing was slow to fair for catfish using beef liver, homemade dough baits, worms, cut bait and stink bait.
El Vado Lake: Fishing for bass was good using plastic worms, night crawlers and crankbaits.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was slow for trout. One angler reported that there might be an algae bloom occurring that is detrimental to the fishing conditions.
Heron Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. The best bank fishing was reported to be on the lake’s western edge using worms and PowerBait for trout.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 13.1 cfs. Fishing on the upper Rio Cebolla and East Fork was good using dry flies, Panther Martin spinners, salmon eggs and worms for rainbow and brown trout. Stimulator, hopper and black flies were a few flies that were also working well. The hot weather has slowed the fishing on lower elevation Jemez waters.
Laguna del Campo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lagunitas Lakes: Trout fishing was slow with only a couple of fish being reported caught using small red worms.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: We had a repot that fishing was slow, but a couple bass and trout are being caught.
McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was fair to good for bass using 3- to 4-inch natural, red and orange plastic worms and crawdads. Pike fishing was fair to good using white/yellow crankbaits, swim baits and buzz baits in 10 to 30 feet of water. Kokanee salmon fishing was good using green, pink and orange spinners tipped with corn fished 20- to 40-feet deep. Anglers reported having success fishing for Kokanee using Double Whammies, Kokanee Killers and other assorted spinners. A couple of brown trout were also caught by anglers fishing for Kokanee Salmon. We had no reports on other species.
San Gregorio Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and Pistol Petes.
San Juan River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 1,040 cfs. Trout fishing above Texas Hole is fair to good using size 24 to 26 midges. Fishing below Texas Hole in the deeper runs fishing is fair using San Juan worms, leach patterns and egg patterns. Fishing the bait waters was fair to good using night crawlers, Panther Martin spinners and Gulp eggs. Water clarity is good upriver from Texas Hole. Water clarity below Texas Hole is murky.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, a wide assortment of small flies, leach patterns and woolly buggers for trout.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at all ponds was fair using worms and flies for bluegill. Fishing was slow to fair using worms, hot dogs and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest Fishing Report
Alumni Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing for catfish and bass has been fair to good using worms and chicken liver.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing for all species is reported as slow with only a few bass being caught.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was very good using minnows for white bass. Fishing for walleye was fair using minnows, crankbaits, curly tail grubs, spoons and sassy shad fished in 12- to 15- feet of water. Fishing for catfish was good using minnows and chicken liver, with several catfish over 10-pounds being reported caught by anglers last week.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing for white bass was good using live minnows and sassy shad. Fishing was slow to fair using plastic worms, nightcrawlers, crank baits, creature baits and senkos for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye and crappie was slow to fair using crank baits that dive 12- to 20- feet deep as well as spoons, sassy shad and curly tail grubs. Fishing was good using worms, minnows, homemade dough bait, hotdogs and chicken liver for catfish.
Escondida Lake: Anglers report fishing as slow.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 27.4 cfs. Fishing for trout is fair using spinners.
Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was slow for all species.
Percha Dam: Fishing for all species was slow.
Quemado Lake: Fishing for trout was fair using spinners, spoons and pink, purple and lime green PowerBait.
Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 2,270 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte was fair using curly tail grubs, sassy shad worms and minnows for walleye and white bass. Fishing was good using worms and homemade dough baits for catfish.
Snow Lake: Fishing for trout was slow for some and good for others. The anglers catching fish reported catching them trolling wedding ring spinners with nightcrawlers.
Young Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southeast Fishing Report
Alto Lake: Fishing was fair to good for catfish using worms.
Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Berrendo Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday morning was 7.08 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage. It appears now that the lake will be out of commission until the spring of 2020.
Bosque Redondo Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Fishing was fair for catfish using nightcrawlers and hotdogs.

Eunice Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing for catfish was fair to good using cut bait.
Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was fair for catfish using shrimp and other catfish baits.
Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was fair for trout and perch using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species.
Jal Lake: Fishing for catfish was slow to fair using homemade dough baits.

Ruidoso River: Stream flow on Monday morning at Hollywood was 4.54 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits and curly tail grubs for bass and walleye. Fishing at night for catfish using minnows, night crawlers and hotdogs was good. We had no reports on other species.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair to good using minnows, nightcrawlers, crank baits, jerk baits, tubes, senkos and crawdads for bass and walleye. Some anglers reported having success trolling crankbaits 10- to 20-feet deep for walleye.
