This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Alumni Pond: Lawrence Lucero of Las Cruces caught a 4.5-pound largemouth bass May 8. He was using a 7-inch motor oil worm.
Cowles Ponds: Evan Romero, age 10, Katelyn, age 8, Kaydence, age 8 and Karleigh, age 7, of Cochiti Pueblo caught limits of trout May 12. They were using salmon eggs.
Fenton Lake: Manuel Vigil of Ranchos De Taos caught a 21-inch rainbow trout May 7. He was using PowerBait.
Pecos River: Dolores Valencia of Pecos caught a 28-inch, 10.1-pound rainbow trout May 9. She was using a black and red streamer.
Santa Rosa Lake: Ryan Goodman of Santa Fe caught a walleye that measured a little over 25 inches and weighed approximately 6 pounds. He was trolling a crank bait.
Ute Lake: Lonnie Siebrandt of Hobbs caught a 5.03-pound largemouth bass May 8. He was using a crank bait. Todd Rodvold of Elizabeth, Colorado caught a 4.88-pound smallmouth bass May 9. He was using a Berkley general.
The following reports came in late, but are definitely worth mentioning:
Eagle Nest Lake: Luis Heroin-Cruz of Taos caught a 44.5-inch, 25-pound, northern pike Apr. 28. He was fly fishing and using a black and red streamer.
Rio Grande: Jonathon Casados of Albuquerque caught a 28-inch, 8 to 10-pound carp May 11. He was fishing the river near Rio Bravo and using worms.
Santa Rosa Lake: Lucus Herrera of Santa Fe caught a 22-inch walleye and several others and a few crappie May 13. He was using spoons in 20 feet of water.
Storrie Lake: Destinee Barela, age 4, of Las Vegas caught her limit of trout including one 17-inch rainbow May 5. She was using rainbow PowerBait.
Tingley Beach: Daniel Bazan of Albuquerque caught and released a 4.5-pound largemouth bass May 5. He was using a ned rig.

Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday morning was 79.6 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using copper John Barrs, red San Juan worms, red zebra midges and brassies for trout. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was very good using PowerBait.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait and worms for trout up to 20 inches. Fishing was fair using worms and liver for catfish. A few bass were caught by anglers using worms. We had no reports on other species.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was very good using senkos, tubes, crank baits, spinner baits, jerk baits, jigs and creature baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using minnows and curly tail grubs for crappie. Fishing was good using crank baits, sassy shad and spinners for white bass. Fishing was good using minnows, curly tail grubs, sassy shad, bottom bouncer rigs and crank baits for walleye. Fishing was good using cut bait, homemade dough bait and liver for catfish. The surface water temp was in the low to mid 60s.
Costilla Creek: Trout fishing was good using baetis nymph patterns on dry dropper rigs.
Cowles Ponds: Fishing was very good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was good using spinners, small spoons and PowerBait for rainbow trout. Fishing for northern pike was good using PowerBait, crank baits, large streamers, spinners and spoons. Fishing was fair to good using worms for perch.
Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fawn Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Gallinas River: Fishing was good using worms for trout.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using PowerBait for rainbow trout up to 24 inches.
Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait for trout.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait and Pistol Petes for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for a renovation project on the dam and no firm opening date has been set.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 392 cfs. Fishing was fair using worms for a mixed bag of brown and rainbow trout. The best action was reported by anglers fishing pools near the bank.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 171 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge was 2,390 cfs. Fishing in the Taos area was slow. Fishing through the Albuquerque area was slow to fair using worms, cut bait and stink bait for carp and catfish.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow on Monday morning was 88.9 cfs. Trout fishing on the lower Hondo was good using caddis nymphs for a time last week but expect action to slow down with increased runoff.
Rio Mora: Stream flow on Monday morning was 100 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Penasco was 175 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was very good using jigs, Pistol Petes, spoons and PowerBait for trout. Peter Romero reported great fishing on Mother’s Day. He caught and released a good number of rainbow trout in the 15 to 20-inch class and several brown trout. He was using Secret Weapon jigs.
Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season.
Springer Lake: Fishing was fair to good using streamers, swim baits, jerk baits and crank baits for northern pike. We had no reports on other species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was good using salmon peach PowerBait for trout.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: HOT SPOT FOR LARGEMOUTH BASS and SMALLMOUTH BASS: Fishing was very good using crank baits, jerk baits, swim baits, Berkley generals, senkos, tubes, creature baits and spinner baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using minnows, curly tail grubs and small jigs for crappie. Fishing was good trolling crank baits for walleye and white bass. Fishing was good using hot dogs, homemade dough bait, liver, night crawlers and dip bait for catfish in shallow water. The surface temp was in the mid 60s.
Northwest Fishing Report
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits and creature baits for smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species. The water was quite murky.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 2,160 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was fair using water dogs, streamers, jerk baits and deep running crank baits for tiger muskie. Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait, worms and spoons for trout. Fishing was fair using homemade dough bait, liver and hot dogs for catfish.
Brazos River: Fishing was good using worms and small copper John Barrs for trout.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 2,120 cfs and 1,800 cfs respectively. Trout fishing was slow.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow with the high, muddy water, but anglers managed to catch a few crappie, catfish, northern pike and largemouth bass. The key was putting a lure or bait right in their face.
El Vado Lake: Fishing was fair using worms, small jigs and tubes for a mixed bag of perch and smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, Pistol Petes, worms, leech patterns, Kastmasters, Panther Martins and small crank baits for trout.
Heron Lake: The Sierra Vista boat ramp opened Monday and the water continues to rise. Fishing was good using PowerBait and worms from the bank for rainbow trout. Fishing pressure was light.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 316 cfs and fishing was slow. Fishing on the San Antonio was good using copper John Barrs for brown trout.
Laguna del Campo: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, Kastmasters, Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for trout.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: Our only report this week came from Dustin Beatty who reported the lake was a bit low and fishing was a bit slow.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using assorted PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was good using minnows, small grubs and small tubes for crappie. Fishing was good using swim baits, spinner baits, curly tail grubs, tubes, senkos, jigs and crank baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Most of the smallmouth bass are being caught in less than 10 feet of water. Fishing was fair to good using jigs crank baits and swim baits for northern pike. We had no reports on other species.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow on Monday morning was at 408 cfs and still a bit murky. Fishing through the Quality Water section was fair to good using chamois leeches, flash back pheasant tails, jigs, San Juan worms, Big Macs, red annelids and bright egg patterns. Trout fishing through the bait waters was good using jigs, worms and PowerBait.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, spinners, spoons and bead head nymphs for trout.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was fair using PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest Fishing Report
Alumni Pond: Fishing was slow for all species.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was fair using small jigs for crappie. Fishing was fair to good using liver, hot dogs and stink bait for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Bill Evans Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was good using curly tail grubs, minnows and jigs for crappie. Fishing was good using minnows, crank baits and grubs for walleye. Fishing was fair using liver, homemade dough bait and cut bait for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing continued to be quite good using minnows, crank baits, curly tail grubs, Gulp minnows and tubes for a mixed bag of crappie, white bass and walleye. Fishing was good using senkos, tubes, curly tail grubs, jerk baits, crank baits, senkos, tubes, jigs and swim baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using cut bait, chicken liver, night crawlers and hot dogs for catfish.
Escondida Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 109 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Quemado Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.
Rancho Grande Ponds: Fishing was good using PowerBait and spinners for trout.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 359 cfs. Fishing on the river above Elephant Butte was good using liver, homemade dough bait and carp cut bait for catfish. Fishing below Elephant Butte to Caballo was good using curly tail grubs and west angler minnow imitations for white bass. Fishing was good using stink bait and liver for catfish. We had no other reports.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: The pond remains closed for cleaning and repair.
Southeast Fishing Report
Alto Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, small spoons, Pistol Petes and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bataan Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using spinners and spoons for white bass. We had no reports on other species.
Berrendo Creek: Fishing was fair using crank baits, spinner baits and spoons for largemouth bass. Chevy Wyatt of Roswell caught and released a nice largemouth May 11. He was using a spinner bait. We had no reports on other species.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday morning was 16.3 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage. It appears now that the lake will be out of commission until the spring of 2020.

Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was good using crank baits, jerk baits, flukes, senkos, spinner baits, tubes, grubs, jigs, spoons, minnows and creature baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using bottom bouncers, spoons, tubes, minnows, curly tail grubs and crank baits for walleye and crappie. We had no reports on other species. A few catfish were caught by anglers using worms and minnows.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was very good using minnows and grubs for crappie. Fishing was good using minnows, liver, stink bait and night crawlers for catfish. Fishing was good using crank baits, spinner baits, tubes, minnows, senkos and creature baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using crank baits, grubs, sassy shad and jig and minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair to good using liver, cut bait and night crawlers for catfish.
