Raton Tiger Baseball team again made the state playoffs in 2019 and were given the #15 seed which meant they would have to travel to #2 seed East Mountain for the opening round best two-of-three series. Originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, weather concerns prompted East Mountain to ask to move up the games to a double header on Thursday, May 9.

In Game 1, Raton pitcher Dylan Quartieri threw well, but had to leave the mound in the fourth inning after being hit on the right foot on a hard come-backer. Quartieri faced a tough hitting Timberwolves team with one strikeout and one walk before Jaydon Romero took over. He working 2.3 innings with four strikeouts and one walk. East Mountain sent two pitchers to the mound in the game with Tommy Morgan going six innings with six strikeouts and four walks. Logan Harlan followed up for the last inning with one strikeout.

Dylan Quartieri scored the Tigers first run home in the second inning for one run and finished things off in the by bringing Aden Vanderwater and Isiah Samora around the horn for two more in the fifth inning leaving the score at 6-3. East Mountain sent three more around in the sixth to end the game at 9-3.

In Game 2 Dominik Chavez went the distance for East Mountain ending the game in five innings on a final 12-1 score. Chavez notched six strikeouts. Raton’s Isiah Samora went three innings with two strikeouts. Matthew Quartieiri closed the game for Raton.

East Mountain is now 21-7 and moves on to the quarterfinals on May 15.

Raton says goodbye to five seniors: Richie Acevedo; Brandon Decker; Robert Horner; Jasper Hunnicutt and Silver Hunnicutt.
