In Loving Memory of Mary Kimberely Ann (Kimmy) Mincic

Mary Kimberely Ann (Kimmy) Mincic , entered her eternal peace on April 26th, 2019, at her home, after her battle with Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by her family.
Kimmy was a gift to all who had the opportunity to know her. She loved everyone and it showed in her excitement, laughter and smile that she demonstrated daily.
Kimmy was born on June 25, 1967 in Trinidad, Colorado to her parents Lee and Mary Louise(Ferraro)Mincic along with her siblings Sandy and Charlie Mincic.
Kimmy’s battles in life began immediately when she underwent major surgery in order to give her a quality of life she so well deserved.
Kimmy was born with Down Syndrome which was never a cross for her or her family but a gift because she was blessed with a special ability to love and those who witnessed that great love were touched with the true acceptance of what life is really about.
Since Kimmy was 5 years old she attended Alta Vista School and then the Las Animas County Rehabilitation Center where she loved the social and educational opportunities they provided. She was a member of the TAFT organization where she was an advocate for those with special needs. Her best friends Debbie Mendoza, Marty Zappanti, Jim Trommeter, Melina Palovich, Derek Cress, Steven Cartelli, Lyndi Ramirez, and Sandy Moreno, plus all her friends at LACRC, meant everything to her. Her love for them was so strong and remained apparent year after year and continued to her last day. They showed us all what True Love was all about and what it takes to be kind to each other.
Kimmy participated in Special Olympics and worked hard to succeed! Always repeating the Special Olympic Oath doing it in Sign, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Kimmy was also chosen to travel to the State Capitol where she signed the Pledge of Allegiance In front of the State Senate.
Kimmy proudly attended Trinidad High School where she flourished under the supervision and guidance of Louise Terry. She cheered for the Mighty Miners and graduated in 1988. She remained a proud Alumni and was at every game her nieces and nephews played at and loudly cheered them on with excitement.
In 2011, Kimmy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and because of the declining health of her parents and brother-in-law Augie, she moved in with her niece Gina and nephew Ryan and nieces Katelynn and Jamie. She was very happy to be apart of their family and attended several concerts, games and outings that kept her active.
