It was a wet start to the district games with St Mike’s in Raton Friday afternoon as coaches and city workers swept and squeegeed water off of Jim Wade Field before canceling the games only to have the sun come out and dry out the field for a late start to the softball games.

Jim Wade Field was so wet that water squished out from under your feet as you walked around the infield. The decision was to cancel the games until next week however the sun came out and the efforts before paid off and the games were played much later than usual for the girls. Over at the baseball where they didn’t receive as much rain play started on time.

Dante Romero finished the game and was credited with the loss as Raton was ahead 9-6 going into the seventh inning. St Mikes tied the game to send it into extra innings before closing it out with a four run inning to end the game 13-9.

Thomas Erickson started for St Mikes and went four innings with three strikeout and three walks. Marcos Leyba came in for one inning and with two strikeouts and one walk before Derek Martinez finished the game with four strikeouts and two walks.

Game two saw Raton send four pitchers to the mound with Jayden Romero the only pitcher to go more than one inning with four innings of pitching. He had seven strikeouts to four walks and three hits. Raton could only muster four hits which came against Joaquin Armijo who went for innings for St Mikes. Derek Martinez finished the two remain gin innings with seven strikeouts and only two walks and no hits to hold Raton to a 11-4 loss.
