This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Bluewater Lake: Jacob Larrazolo of Edgewood caught and released a 32-inch tiger muskie Apr. 3. He was fishing for trout with light tackle and using a worm.
Cochiti Lake: Ashwan Herrera of Cochiti Pueblo caught a 38-inch, 14-pound, 10-ounce northern pike April 7. He was fishing by the old marina and using a Rebel lure. Abraham Herrera of Cochiti Pueblo caught a 42-inch, 16-pound, 8-ounce northern pike April 7. He was using a Rebel lure. Donald Wood of Albuquerque caught a 21-inch, 7-pound, 3-ounce largemouth bass Apr. 7. He was fishing the east side of the lake and using a chartreuse Bomber crank bait.
Eagle Nest Lake: Everett Gonzales, age 6, of Angel Fire caught a 21.5-inch rainbow trout Apr. 5. He was using salmon peach PowerBait. Zeus Reese of Eagle Nest caught a 35-inch, 13-pound northern pike and a 21-inch rainbow trout Apr. 6. He was fishing with 4-pound test line and using salmon peach PowerBait.
Elephant Butte Lake: Jewell Johnston of T or C caught and released a 10.02-pound largemouth bass April 7. He was using a 4-inch jerk bait. Jeremy Fuentes of Carlsbad caught and released a big striped bass Mar. 30. He was using a jerk bait. Cole Buser of Gallup caught a 23.19-pound striped bass March 27. He was using a swim bait.
Fenton Lake: Natalie Brown, age 4, of Rio Rancho caught her limit of trout Apr. 5. She was using PowerBait.
Rio Grande: O. W. Clarke, age 8, of Albuquerque caught a channel catfish measuring about 18 inches Apr. 6. He was fishing just south of the Avenida Cesar Chavez bridge and using shrimp.
Tingley Beach: Sarah Rose Wakefield, age 8, and Sebastian Duran, age 7, of Albuquerque each caught a rainbow trout April 7. They were using PowerBait.

Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: Trout fishing was fair using PowerBait.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday morning was 17.2 cfs. Fishing was good using Fire Balls, bead head pheasant tails and bead head hare’s ears.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and spoons for trout. The biggest reported was an 18.5-inch fish caught by Lawrence Vigil of Clayton. He was using yellow PowerBait. We had no reports on other species. The boat ramp is closed due to low water conditions.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was good using liver, cut bait and homemade dough bait for catfish. Fishing was fair using Kastmasters, crank baits, tubes, creature baits and swim jigs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, minnows and grubs for a mixed bag of white bass, walleye and crappie. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the mid to upper 50s.
Costilla Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout. Fishing was fair to good using large streamers, swim baits and PowerBait for northern pike. We had no reports on other species.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.
Fawn Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: Fishing was good using an assortment of PowerBait for trout.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout up to 16 inches.
Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was slow for anglers using bait, but good for fly anglers using a variety of bead head nymphs for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for a renovation project on the dam. Work is scheduled to be completed in June, but no firm opening date has been set.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 183 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using worms for trout.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 57.1 cfs. Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, bead head hare’s ears, poundmeisters, San Juan worms and worms for trout. Fishing at the hatchery pond was very good using PowerBait.
Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge was 481 cfs. Trout fishing in the John Dunn bridge area was fair to good using midge larva, bead head pheasant tails, egg patterns, spoons and night crawlers. We had no reports on other species.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday morning was 36.7 cfs. Fishing was fair using copper John Barrs for trout.
Rio Mora: Stream flow on Monday morning was 40.2 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Penasco was 119 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms, bead head hare’s ears, pheasant tail nymphs, Fisher Chick spinners, Kastmasters and Pistol Petes for trout.
Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season.
Springer Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, swim baits and spinner baits for northern pike. We had no reports on other species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was good trolling crank baits for white bass and a few crappie and walleye. Anglers also caught walleye while using jig and minnow combinations. Fishing was fair to good using jerk baits, spinner baits and jigs for smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using night crawlers and punch bait for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid 50s.
Northwest Fishing Report
Abiquiu Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. The lake level continues to drop and launching boats has become very difficult.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 1,030 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few tiger muskie caught by anglers using worms and swim baits.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 776 cfs and 1,190 cfs respectively. Fishing has slowed considerably with the high-water releases.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was good using worms, homemade dough bait, cut bait and liver for catfish. Fishing was fair using crank baits and swim baits for walleye. Fishing was fair using crank baits, jigs and spinnerbaits for white bass and largemouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
El VadoLake: Fishing was good using tubes, worms and grubs for small smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
Fenton Lake: Trout fishing reports this past week varied from very slow to very good for anglers using an assortment of PowerBait, worms, olive wooly buggers, small spoons and Pistol Petes. The best reports came from anglers using PowerBait just off the bottom.
Heron Lake: As of this past weekend, the lake was free of ice and open to bank fishing. Fishing from the bank in the Ridge Rock area was good using roe sacs, corn and an assortment of PowerBait for trout up to 16 inches. We had no reports on other species.
Jackson Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 226 cfs and fishing was slow. Fishing on the Cebolla was good for anglers using worms, San Juan worms and Fire Balls. We had no other stream reports.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few bass, trout and northern pike caught by anglers using spinner baits, grubs, tubes, jigs and crank baits. The best bass reports were from anglers using spinner baits in Francis Canyon and La Jara Canyon.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: There was a bit of fluctuation in the stream flow this past week as tests were conducted at the main outlet works, but flow on Monday morning was back at 284 cfs. The water remains quite murky and fishing was slow.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms, wooly buggers, leech patterns and Pistol Petes for trout.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was very good using PowerBait, worms, Joe’s Flies, Kastmasters, Velveeta cheese and spinners. We had no reports on other species.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest Fishing Report
Alumni Pond: Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using Velveeta cheese and worms.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms, spinners and spoons for trout. Fishing was good using cut bait, liver and homemade dough bait for catfish. Fishing was fair using minnow imitations for crappie.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms and spinners for trout. A few largemouth bass were caught by anglers using tubes, crank baits, jigs and creature baits. Fishing for catfish was slow, but a few were caught by anglers using liver and plastic worms. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was good using liver and cut bait for catfish. Fishing was good using grubs, minnows and crank baits for a mix of white bass, crappie and walleye. Tony and Jeanette Medran of Silver City caught a nice stringer of crappie and white bass April 6. They were using green grubs.
Elephant Butte Lake: HOT SPOT FOR CRAPPIE. Fishing was very good using minnows and jigs for crappie. The Emiliano Lopez family from El Paso had a great time catching crappie over the last weekend. They were using minnows. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was tough again this past week. A large number of anglers fishing tournaments zeroed out, but a few fish were caught by anglers using jerk baits, tubes, jigs, grubs, crank baits and spinner baits. A few striped bass were caught by anglers using swim baits, crank baits and jerk baits. Fishing was fair using crank baits for white bass and a few walleye. Fishing was good using liver, homemade dough bait, night crawlers and cut bait for catfish. The surface temp was in the high 50s.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait, worms and spoons for trout. A Youth Fishing Tournament will be held here April 13. For more information, call the City of Socorro at (575) 835-8927,
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 320 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was good using worms, liver, homemade dough bait and PowerBait for catfish. Fishing was good using shrimp flavored PowerBait, copper John Barrs, Pistol Petes, Fire Balls and worms for trout. Fishing was fair using spoons and plastic worms for largemouth bass. Fishing was very good using BWOs, blue Duns and caddis imitations for bluegill.

Rancho Grande Ponds: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait for trout.
