The tradition of North South All-Stars began in 1941 and had remained relatively unchanged since then. Two teams were formulated amongst a combination of classes and for this year it include Class A, AA, (small school AAA). The two teams would face off against each other for bragging rights in the State. However, 2019 brought some changes to the format and instead of having the two team traditional format the process to select four teams based off NE, NW, SE, SW quadrants was implemented this year. This meant it wasn’t just a NORTH/SOUTH battle but now became a battle of NM’s quadrants that would battle for State basketball supremacy.
The new format offers the chosen athletes to play two games with the winners meeting up in the second round and the losing teams battling each other as well. While change is not always easily accepted for the traditionalists this new format will give the athletes an opportunity to play more basketball and gave more of the States chosen athletes and opportunity to participate.
Games will be held at Monzano and Valley High Schools in Albuquerque, NM on May 31st and June 1st. We would like to congratulate our area athletes on being chosen by the Coaches of NE NM to participate in this event we are proud to have your represent our area.
