This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Tingley Beach: Nathan Orona of Albuquerque caught and released a 21-inch rainbow trout Mar. 6. He was using a black and orange Panther Martin. Jazzlin Freelong, age 10, of Albuquerque caught her first fish ever, an 18-inch rainbow trout Mar. 10. She was using green PowerBait.
The following reports came in late, but are definitely worth mentioning.
Caballo Lake: Raymundo Baeza of El Paso, TX caught a 27-inch catfish Mar. 2. He was using cut bait.
San Juan River: Joseph Lingnau of Albuquerque caught a 21-inch rainbow trout Mar. 1. He was fishing by the pump house and using corn.

Northeast Fishing Report
Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: Fishing was very good using PowerBait on the bottom for rainbow trout. A few trout were also caught by anglers using spoons.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday morning was 5.46 cfs. Fishing in the deeper holes was good using salmon peach PowerBait for trout. A few were also taken by anglers using bead head hare’s ears.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait, spoons and spinners. The boat ramp is closed due to low water conditions.
Conchas Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Costilla Creek: Mark your calendar to check this one out next spring.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: As of Monday, the lake remained closed to fishing. For updates, call the state park office at (575) 377-1594.
Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fawn Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: The lake has been closed to fishing due to thin ice conditions.
Lake Maloya: As of Sunday, March 10, the lake remained closed to ice fishing due to unstable ice conditions. Some open water areas were forming along the shoreline. For updates, call the state park office at (575) 445-5607.
Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout up to 23 inches.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and homemade dough bait for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for a renovation project on the dam. Work is scheduled to be completed in June, but no firm opening date has been set.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 40.3 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using bead head hare’s ears, San Juan worms, Fire Balls and worms for trout.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 36.3 cfs. Fishing was good using worms, red and orange egg patterns, bead head pheasant tail nymphs and San Juan worms for trout.
Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge was 625 cfs. Fishing was fair using BWOs, wooly buggers and spoons for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Rio Hondo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: Stream flow on Monday morning was 10.1 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Peter Romero reported the lake was almost full and fishing was fair using pheasant tail nymphs and brown jigs. The jigs were productive at the inlet where browns were active. There is no boat dock in the water at this time.
Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was fair to good using live minnows under lights for catfish in 15 to 18 feet of water. Fishing was fair to good using live minnows in about 35 feet of water for crappie. Fishing was slow to fair using reaction baits and jigs in 8 to 10 feet of water for smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the mid 40s.
Northwest Fishing Report
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using tubes, grubs and spoons for walleye. We had no reports on other species. The lake level remains low, and the concrete boat ramp is completely out of the water.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 414 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Trout fishing on the Albuquerque (South), Bernalillo, Belen and Peralta drains was good using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls, copper John Barrs and bead head pheasant tail nymphs. We had no reports on other species.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing from shore was slow to fair using spinner baits and crank baits for tiger muskie. We had no reports on other species.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 27.6 cfs and 391 cfs respectively. Trout fishing below Abiquiu was fair using bead head hare’s ears, prince nymphs and worms. We had no reports from below El Vado.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
El VadoLake: As of Monday, the lake remained closed to fishing due to unsafe ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at (575) 588-7470.
Fenton Lake: The lake is currently closed to ice fishing due to unsafe conditions. For updates, call the state park office at (575) 829-3630.
Heron Lake: As of Monday, there was a small amount of open water and the lake remained closed to fishing. For updates, check the state park web site or call the state park office at (575) 588-7470.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 159 cfs. Fishing on the Cebolla was fair to good using worms and Fire Balls for stocked trout. We had no other stream reports.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was good using salmon peach and chartreuse PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few northern pike reported caught by anglers using swim baits and spinner baits.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow below Navajo Lake on Monday morning was 280 cfs and the water was quite murky. Trout fishing was fair through the Quality Water for anglers using bunny leeches, wooly buggers, RS2s, princess nymphs and San Juan worms. Through the bait waters, trout fishing was fair using worms, Fire Balls, wooly buggers and spoons.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls, spoons and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest Fishing Report
Alumni Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, worms and Pistol Petes for trout.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was fair using small crappie jigs and small tubes for crappie. Fishing was fair using PowerBait, Fire Balls and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes and small spoons for trout. Christopher Palomarez of Silver City reported good fishing this past week. He caught several trout while using garlic bait and Fire Balls. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using cut bait and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair to good using, swim jigs, crank baits, creature baits and plastic worms for largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using swim baits, spoons and crank baits for white bass and a few walleye. Fishing was fair using homemade dough bait, liver and cut bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes for trout.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 296 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was very good using using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls and homemade dough bait for trout. A few catfish were caught by anglers using liver and homemade dough bait. Fishing for largemouth bass was slow.
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rancho Grande Ponds: Fishing was fair to good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 2.10 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: The pond remains closed for cleaning and repair.
Southeast Fishing Report
Alto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Berrendo Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bataan Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls and small spoons for trout.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday morning was 5.20 cfs. Fishing was very good using streamers, dry flies and worms for trout. Anglers using streamers and worms also caught a few largemouth bass and crappie.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage. It appears now that the lake will be out of commission until the spring of 2020.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was good using bead head nymphs, Kastmasters, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bottomless Lakes: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and small nymphs for trout.
Brantley Lake: Fishing was fair using black plastic worms, jigs and tubes for largemouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, worms and spinners for trout.
Chaparral Park Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms, spoons and Panther Martin and Mepps spinners.
Corona Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Gulp eggs and garlic cheese for trout.
Eunice Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.

Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, spinners and Pistol Petes for trout.

Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday morning was 87.5 cfs. Fishing below Sumner Lake was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait and worms.
Perch Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, Joe’s flies and Pistol Petes for trout.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow on Monday morning at Hollywood was 20.2 cfs. Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was good using tubes, jigs, crank baits and sweet beavers for largemouth bass. Fishing for walleye was slow, but a few were caught by anglers using tubes and crank baits. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the mid to high 40s.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair using tubes, crank baits, swim baits and jigs for largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, swim baits, spoons and jig and grub combinations for walleye. We had no reports on other species.
