Shooting in Mora Investigated by State Police

Mora, NM – On February 13, 2019 around 9:31 p.m., New Mexico State Police Uniformed Officers in Las Vegas were called to a residence on State Road 518 for a twenty-eight-year-old male who had been shot.  State Police officers and EMS arrived and began giving aid to the victim who was later air lifted to an area hospital.  The victim was able to identify the suspect who shot him as a sixteen-year-old juvenile male from Chacon, NM.

 

New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents were called into investigate the case.  Through investigation, agents were able to successfully locate and take the suspect into custody without further incident.  He was booked into the Santa Fe Juvenile Detention Center and charged with the following crimes:

 

  • Aggravated battery great bodily harm (a 3rd degree felony)
  • Shooting at inhabited dwelling (resulting in great bodily harm) (a 2nd degree felony)
  • Tampering with evidence (a 4th degree felony)
  • Conspiracy to Commit (Aggravated battery great bodily harm) (a 3rd degree felony)

 

This investigation is in preliminary stages with no additional information available including the details concerning the altercation that lead up to the shooting.  The extent of the victim’s injuries and current condition are unknown.   Since the suspect is a juvenile, State Police will not be releasing his name at this time.
