It was another district match up in Tiger Gym Friday evening, February 15th, as the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Braves from Santa Fe Indian School where the Lady Braves simply grabbed the Tiger by the tail and didn’t let go until they put three wins in the books.
Our varsity Lady Tigers played a first quarter to be proud of as they went out and looked like they were having fun and played a very good game with very few mistakes. It was almost two minutes into the game when Raton scored the first points to light up the score board. Near the end of the first quarter Santa Fe had battled back and tied the game at eight. The ladies finished the first quarter with Santa Fe on top 14-8.
Raton’s Jadyn Walton lead the Lady Tigers in scoring and in rebounds as the senior cleared the boards multiple times to keep it close early.
It was the second quarter that turned the tide when Camilla Lewis unlaced the net with four 3-pointers to stretch out the lead and outscore Raton 18-5. The Lady Braves also turned up the heat and pressed the Lady Tigers into submission which continued into the second half of play holding Raton to only eight points in the second half. At the final buzzer it was the 20th win of the season for Santa Fe as they marked the win column with a 76-21 score.
In the C-Team game the Lady Braves simply won the game with double digit scoring in the first half of the game to lead 49 to 1 at half time. At the final buzzer it was a 72-7 score.
The Lady Tigers didn’t fair much better in the JV game as Santa Fe Indian went four quarters of double digit scoring ending the game 75-15.
