Number one-ranked St. Michael’s Horsemen traveled up I-25 Saturday, February 9th and put another mark in the win column at the expense of the Raton Tigers as the Horsemen continue their district domination and winning streak and are a perfect 6-0 in District 2AAA after the 71-33 win over the Tigers.
Varsity action saw St. Mikes take the lead early and never give it up, but the game was not as big of a runaway as the previous game in Santa Fe. St. Mikes put on the press, but Raton broke it more often than the last meeting, but the St Mikes defense made the difference at the basket by keeping Raton from making the needed shots to keep the score close.
The C-team started the day with the best showing for Raton as they tied the game in the fourth quarter at 28. With a tie game Raton tried the fouling strategy to get the ball back which backfired on Raton as St Mikes went 8 of 10 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. When the buzzer sounded St Mikes pulled out the win 35-29.
The JV game, however, went a totally different direction with St Mikes taking an early lead and never looking back. The final buzzer saw a 70-16 score.
