Tigers Claw SF Prep for Win

Looking for their first District 2AAA win of the season, the Raton boys basketball team traveled to Santa Fe Prep on Tuesday, January 30th and returned home with a 59-41 victory.

The Tigers and the Blue Griffins traded three point shots in the first period and it was a close game at the end of the first quarter with Raton holding a 14 -11 edge with the help of 2 3-point goals put in by senior Jose Archuleta. However, in the second period, the Raton defense stiffened by holding SF Prep to nine, while the offense was able to put in 19, on the strength of freshman Matthew Quartieri.  He was inserted into the starting five action because of the injury last game to senior Ismael Tafoya.

The Tigers lead by 13 going into the intermission and then salted the game away in the third with a 21 point quarter as Jose Archuleta caught fire with 3 more 3 point goals and Raton cruised into the fourth quarter with a cushion that was eaten into by SF Prep, but was too big to overcome.
