The weather on Saturday evening December 15, 2018 was cool, not to cold, for the event at hand on the Chicorica Creek. As the sun’s glow faded over Sugarite Canyon the flickering lights of over 1500 luminaries took over and guided hikers along the trail south of the Sugarite Canyon State Park Visitor’s Center.
With over 1500 flickering LED luminaries lining the .56 mile River Walk Trail south of the Sugarite Canyon State Park Visitor’s Center hikers could walk the entire trail with light at night. As hikers came down the trail and neared the bridge on the south end of the trail the lights lining the hand rail of the bridge brightened the path and gave way to a spectacular view of the lazy Chicorica Creek below. According to Park Ranger Pat Walsh the park used the small teacup flickering LED candles in place of a real candles to prevent the possibility of a fire.
Visitors were welcomed to the Visitor’s Center with goodies and drink to warm their hands after the half mile plus walk. Kiddos could visit with Santa in the shelter behind the center near the camp fire.
