In Loving Memory of Nick L. Trujillo

Nick Louis Trujillo, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018, at his home in Raton following a lengthy illness.

Nick was born in Raton, New Mexico, to Frank and Georgia Trujillo.  He was the oldest of five children.  He spent part of his childhood in Morley, Colorado.  He married Ruth Montoya Trujillo in 1954 and celebrated 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2016.  Together they raised three children.

Nick was a kind and generous man who worked hard and provided well for his family.  He spent much of his adult life working for Elco Metal Products and Gateway Metal.  He also spent decades working summer weekends at La Mesa Park as the handsome bartender in his corner of the Grandstand Bar.  Since then, he always had a ready smile and a peppermint candy for people who crossed his path every day.

He cheated death several times in his lifetime.  He almost drowned as a toddler.  He was almost trampled by a mule team.  At 13, he was accidentally shot by a friend while they were hunting near Morley.  At 59, a birth defect was diagnosed and a St. Jude’s valve was implanted in his heart.  He had ongoing treatment in recent years for other health issues that caused flights for life and rehabilitation.

Nick was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, his parents, and his bothers Dickie and Leonard.  He is survived by his brother Raymond Trujillo, sister Gloria Valencia, his son Danny & wife Ernestine & children, daughter Debbie & husband Lee Joe Sanchez, and Donna & husband Ron Stoller. He is also survived by grandchildren Colleen Stoller, Joshua Stoller (Claudia), Christopher Sanchez (Megan), and Joe Budd (Amanda).  Great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Raton Humane Society, P.O.Box 1321, Raton, New Mexico 87740.

At his request, no services will be held at this time.  Graveside services for Nick L. and Ruth Trujillo are planned for Spring 2019.  If you would like to share a special memory, please send your thoughts to dgstoller@bacavalley.com or to The Family of Nick L. Trujillo, 4035 Tamarisk Road, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88011.

The family wishes to thank his caregiver “girls” who made the last months of his life so special.
