In Loving Memory of Nick Furia

Nick Furia, age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on November 9, 2018. He was born on April 26th, 1929 in Sopris, Colorado to John Furia and Frances (DeBono) Furia. He attended Sopris schools graduating from Lincoln High School in 1947. Nick moved to Trinidad from Sopris in 1969 where he resided until his passing. He was a veteran of the Korean War conflict and his name is inscribed on the memorial at the Colorado Welcome Center. He attended TSJC and later finished a Bachelor of Arts degree at CSU in Fort Collins – majoring in Education. Nick worked on the I-25 highway construction project before beginning a 20 year teaching career at TSJC teaching Building Trades with co-instructor, Roger Brunelli. He was a devout Catholic and always made his Christian faith a priority. He was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Parish. He loved construction, fishing and hunting and the great outdoors in Colorado. In his later years, Nick enjoyed going fishing and hunting with his two granddaughters, Chrisily and Kami and attending their sporting events.

Nick married Erma Bragazzi on June 1, 1957 and was married for 47 years. After being widowed by Erma’s passing in 2004, Nick again found love and companionship with Frances Bayes. Together, the created many new memories dinning out at various Trinidad restaurants and people watching around town.

Preceding him in death are his parents John and Frances (DeBono) Furia; Wife Erma (Bragazzi) Furia; Brother Joe Furia; Sisters/Brothers-in-laws: Anna (Gaetano) Savio, Lucy (Sentino) Cozalter, Theresa (Louis) Regusa, Caroline (John) Neil, Rose (John) Naglich along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick is survived by his two sons, Chris Furia (Anna Armijo), Trinidad, Doug Furia, Denver, grandchildren Chrisily and Kami Furia, Trinidad, Special companion, Frances Bayes, Trinidad, Sister-in-law, Jenny Furia, Trinidad. He is also survived by his friend and special caregiver, Nick Moreno, many nieces, nephews, cousins and all his wonderful friends in Trinidad and beyond.

Visitation will be held at the Comi Funeral Home in Trinidad, CO on Wednesday, November 14, from 3 PM to 6 PM.

Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 7 PM.

Funeral and memorial mass will be held Thursday, November 15 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10 AM.

Internment will follow at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery with graveside services and military honors conducted by the Ft. Carson Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers are: Roger Brunelli Sr., David Hadad, Frank Givgliano, John Regusa, Nance Regusa, Phil Maniscalco and Joe Saccomanno.

Active pallbearers are: Joe Terry, Franklin Shew, Bill Massarotti, Chris Moreno, Vince Massarotti and Nick Moreno.

Donations can be made to the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
