It was another tough day for Raton volleyball as the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Braves from Santa Fe Indian School Saturday afternoon and came away with another mark in the loss column for all three teams.
The C-Team gave it a go in the first game and stayed close finishing out 25-22 but couldn’t make things go in game two as the Lady braves took off and simply kept it going for the win.
In the JV game the Lady Tigers seems to play a decent game but simply couldn’t make it click as the points fell for the Lady Braves. Raton couldn’t stay up losing both games by more than 10.
The varsity match however was a battle as Raton stayed close keeping the ball going with extended volleys but fell short as the Lady Braves had a few more slams that hit the floor to give ethane the win. Game two saw Raton take the lead and extend it to five and tie it then pull away again by four only to tie the game at 17. Santa Fe went on to take the lead and had Raton down 24-19 before they finally allowed Raton to post three more before making the winning volley.
Game three, it was Raton taking the lead and extending it to six and seven then on miscues and some good plays by the Lady Braves they came to within two. Ginger Baird was instrumental in keeping Raton in the game with several blocks at the net. Raton took the 19-17 lead and went on the hold the Lady Braves to one while they added the needed six for the win.
Game four saw Santa Fe take an early lead 5-1 and never look back. Raton came to within two in the middle of the game but couldn’t make the points to take the lead. Raton rallied and came to within one at 21-20 as Santa Fe pulled it out with long volleys and a couple of good hits at the net for the points and the win.
