Lala Gonzales Bernal passed away peacefully on September 26, 2018, at age 91 with her family at her side. Lala was a resident of MCMC Long Term Facility in Raton for the last 5 years. Lala was born on April 8, 1927 in Glorieta, NM to Sixto and Balbina (Dalton) Gonzales. The family moved to Raton in 1945. Lala was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Ramona and Tessie.
Lala married Ignacio Bernal in 1961 and they resided in Springer, NM for many years where she had many friends, including special friends Emily Fernandez and Deacon Edward Olona and his wife Celia. Lala was preceded in death by her husband Ignacio Bernal in 2005. Lala was a member of St. Patrick’s/ St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton. Lala is survived by her sister Julie Valerio and husband Robert, brother Tony Gonzales and wife Angelina. Nephews surviving are Stephen Gonzales and wife Jean of Kansas, Dan Gonzales, Robert Valerio Jr. and wife Diana, all of Albuquerque. Nieces surviving are Jane Gonzales Young and husband Randy of Pueblo, CO. Michelle Valerio Portillo and husband Robert. Numerous great nieces and nephews also survive. Lala is also survived by sisters-in-law Viola Castillo and Teddie Jean, and nieces, Vera, Patsy, Marie, Lizzy and Virginia and husband Jimmy Chavez, Ramona and nephew Steven Castillo. Viewing for Lala Gonzales Bernal will by on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Robert Valerio Jr., Dan Gonzales, Stephen Castillo, Mike Cruz, Jerry Sandoval and James Trujillo. The family wishes to thank Dr. Christine Lopez and MCMC Long Term for their excellent care of Lala.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. recited by Deacon Ed Olona. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton NM with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal and Internment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
